Ukraine could hold against the whole Europian army on it's own before the beginning of the war. It was one of the best, bigest and well trained armies at that time. And, besides that, Russian were at the gates of Kyiv at had it almost surrounded, but were tricked to fall back due to peace negotiations.

Russia lost a ton of equipment, a ton of men, and a ton of money from either said lost equipment, sanctions on oil and gas, or United Russia continuing to embezzle taxpayer money. A stop to the war is a stop to wartime investment, which will be a shock to the economy.
