I enjoyed reading about Luke’s Jedi order in the EU. Why that wasn’t included in the sequels is beyond me. Also the main character should’ve been a grand child of Anakin and Padme since Lucas said it’s about Anakin, his children, and grandchildren.
Star Wars was ruined with the obsession with diversity/girl power, not having a plan, actively working to piss off fans, etc. I remember before the prequels came out when I assumed that the future of star wars was books and comics. Should’ve stayed that way after the prequels
It was hubris. Disney was handed decades of expanded universe on a silver platter, but day one they declared it all non-canon because they wanted to be the ones to write Star Wars, to make it 'better'. They assumed the old fans would slurp it up regardless, and they'd get that mythic Modern Audience on top. Now, it's too late. Most of the original cast is now dead, the brand is tarnished, and ideologues are still too entrenched in the company to admit they're the ones at fault. Maybe in 20 years someone will take another crack at it.
The irony is that the only way Star Wars can be saved now is for a new company to come in and say all Disney Star Wars is non-canon then remake everything Disney attempted to do but better.
And that won't happen unless Star Wars becomes so unprofitable for Disney that they decide to sell it off... And even then they probably wouldn't do it because they'd be dumb to give up the rights. The company would have to go under or be at risk of doing so (which they're not even close to) for you to even have hope if it.
They also know that even if they never made another Star Wars anything, it'd still write checks.
Exactly. Disney is still profitable, only because Disney is an amusement park company. And Star Wars is still profitable because people are still buying content and figurines of the original Star Wars franchise, created by George Lucas. Disney is still nowhere near going bankrupt, and Star Wars is still nowhere near being dead weight to them, even if they utterly wrecked its reputation.
