Unfortunately it looks like there would be some number of actual American turncoats on the foreigners' side too.
But that's probably for the good in the end. Most populations benefit from letting nature select against the defective ones occasionally.
Had someone IRL complaining at a dinner the other night that Trump was being too mean to illegal invaders in his address to the nation.
This is someone who is living IRL jeet fatigue and is still actively whining about being fooled lately by some of their doorknocking scams.

That's not unfortunate. Weeding out the traitors helps ensure a stronger society comes out the other end of the tunnel.
Arguably I think we should set up an inquisition afterwards to help root out the leftists who didn't fight openly.
Some number is a weird way of saying half the country
It's a big place, I'm not gonna pretend I have my finger on the pulse of every state. Some places are self-hating hellscapes, some places are refreshingly based.
In any given conflict a large proportion of the population will just do anything to stay out of it, only the most passionate will actually fight, which side gets how many is not so simple to guess. A wide range of overall average proportions seem pretty plausible, but I will say a large number of turncoats I have met are like that because they're just too pussy to stand up for themselves, so don't seem the most reliable force to expect to turn up to an honest to goodness fight.
Nature isn't allowed to select against the defective because family lobbyists won't let us cut the parasite off.
The defective are the people shitting out kids they can't afford.
