The game is being advertised as a return to form prequal to HOMM franchise. Assumingly before the first one.
From the steam description: "Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era is the official prequel hailing back to the origins of the genre-defining, critically acclaimed series of turn-based strategy games"
In addition to being a cheap looking homm3 clone there are some red flags.
This is the tier 6 unit upgrade of the humans, please note that the knight was downgraded to tier 5:

This is the unit that replaced the monk: https://mightandmagic.fandom.com/wiki/Lightweaver
The elves have been changed to being green skinned because no white skinned creatures are allowed.
From the unit description humans are insane religious zelots so I assume that they're going to be the bad guys all along in the campaign.
Also the game looks like a cheap mobile copy of homm3. Every item I found early needs to be quirky humor. It has almost no real innovation and homm2 is more appealing visual then this game.
Songs of Conquest. True to the old school HOMM.
And if anyone missed them the first time, the first few King's Bounty games after some Russians bought the IP from the original did a pretty decent off-shoot of the HoMM style too.
Maybe the later ones are decent too, I kind of fell off on them because the sequels all started to get a bit samey. Don't remember any woke pandering, although the humor is very eastern European (aka weird sometimes).
Crossworld's was probably the pinnacle of the series and it's just a couple of bucks fairly often, including right now.
It seems I already own it. My playlist is way too long.
Haha, I hear you brother. If they keep sucking the life out of games maybe one day I'll even clear it. Been playing Max Payne 3 for the first time this week, scotch in hand for the authentic experience. That one has been gathering dust in the library for many years.
Using cheat engine's built in "speed hack" which just multiplies the entire game speed, has been a godsend for clearing out the old turn based ones with needlessly slow animations. I bet I could easily turn a 20 hour play through of xcom into a 8 hour one with it.
I play that! It's pretty good.
Thank you for the suggestion. I had it on wishlist for a while but I forgot about it.
rofl@'mother superior', dude looks like a dude in armor.
Lightweaver = current thing black female role. Has no place in a European style fantasy world.
In the Forgotten Realms lore drows do exist, but that's a copout IMO.
Drow are actually black though. Like, onyx black, not just really dark brown. Plus, y'know, the elf ears. Which this character obviously doesn't have.
Mother Superior was the title of the head of a nunnery, her job was to prevent women from acting like...how modern women are.
Beatings, imprisonment and starvation were all on the table.
This is just more anti-White anti-Christian humiliation.
I was mildly interested in this and you just gave me more than enough reason to ignore it. Thanks for saving me a download.
Homm 2 has hidden maps that you unlock by completing the hot seat maps on impossible difficulty under certain conditions. I think you have to play solo as player 1 but that doesn't work for all of them.
The bonus maps start you with artifacts, high level heroes, dragons, and resources. Kind of like new game+ hot seat maps.
I bring this up whenever I see homm2 mentioned because there is no information about this to look up on the internet. The only way to see these is to save scum your way to victory yourself.
I've played Homm2 a lot as a kid but I forgot about that.
As lauded as homm3 is and it is a great game. Homm2 will always be my goat. Had them both and I played 2 much more. Can't explain it.
I can't remember which one it is, but one of the Ubisoft sequels still has a game breaking bug with +stat staves lowering your stats.
That series ended with HOMM 3 for me.
HOMM 5 is fine. It's not great and the AI is bad but it is a good game and there are mods to fix the AI. I just wished the maps where bigger
