I like Battle Brothers and was looking forward to Menace. From the videos it seems they went for the full representation with way to many women in a combat scenario.
I may be just paranoid after the last 10 years but it really put me off the game.
Has anyone play the demo? What was your opinion?
Just looked this game up -- and wow. This is my kind of game, conceptually.
It's like UFO Defence, Jagged Alliance, Helldivers, Battletech, Aliens and Earthsiege all rolled into one.
I'm loving the different vehicles and artillery (we really need more TBS games with artillery support).
Hopefully your being wary about the women is related to the random soldier creation? (does it have random soldier creation like old UFO games?)
I'll keep an eye on this one and monitor the discussion.
It looks like there are commanders with full back story that are women, they highlight a black woman. Not looking forward to women shouting orders to be honest. I dislike women shouting in general and I can't take serious a woman trying to be intimidating.
Oh wow, well in that case, that's not a good thing at all.
I'm right there with you about an annoying Shaniqua hollering orders like she has some sort of physical authority to enforce those orders. It was one of the things (amongst others) that instantly put me off of Aliens: Fire Team Alpha.
I got really excited for a minute there.
No joy. This topic is boring. No explosives at all!
Whatever. Carry on.
It's an okay game. I didn't enjoy it, felt like it was too gritty for my tastes. It has interesting mechanics though
I prefer xcom style games a little more on the tactical layer.
I have played the demo. The black woman is voiced by a white woman even. So is the gypsy psycho tank pilot.
That said, there will be at least two dozen squad leaders in the final release so you can pick whoever you want. And in terms of in-game lore you're basically a penal legion anyway. Your marines are comprised almost completely of criminals. Which is why they're using women at all.
As for the actual gameplay I cannot recommend it enough. The devs could have just given us Battle Brothers in space and I'd have been happy. This is far better.
My best guess is they went with such a diverse cast in order to demonstrate a bunch of different voices.
Ashley Williams from Mass Effect is voiced by a black woman.
Neither Ash, nor the elf the same VA did in Dragon Age 2, were black.
Meh, think I'll wait for the full version and will se the roaster. If it is 50/50 men/women I'm out I know it is an overreaction but I don't particularly care at this point. It just makes no sense to me to have women commanders in general and definitely not in equal representation.
