Basically this guy was just swimming in a pool, and some entitled Karen decided that she didn't like that.
Karen proceeded to interfere with his ability to do laps, so he gets out of the pool and waits for her to be done.
Karen calls her boyfriend over, who has a concealed carry pistol, and together they start confronting the swimmer.
At one point the boyfriend reveals the pistol, but does not fire upon the swimmer. This is called brandishing and is considered a crime in and of itself. The swimmer was understandably afraid for his life and called the cops.
One cop arrives and takes Karen + boyfriend into the pool house for questioning, not separating them, so their stories line up.
Two more cops arrive, one female, one male. The female cop almost immediately draws her firearm on the swimmer who is confused as to why he is being treated this way. He gets on the ground almost immediately and is placed under arrest.
The swimmer was charged with resisting arrest and the Karen + boyfriend allowed to walk away.
The female officer was later fired, but the police union got her reinstated a year later. The swimmer filed a civil suit against the female officer for excessive force, and the court threw it out because he "resisted arrest" despite complying with basically every order.
There was some guy who was paralyzed from the waist down for years. Some crazy neighbor claimed he kicked down her door and she filed a police report on him. He went to the police station for some reason, they cops there saw there was a warrant for his arrest, and was arrested. The arresting officer asked "how the hell can a guy in a wheelchair have done what was claimed he did?" He asked his boss, who was sitting in his office eating a sandwich, "the guy is faking", he said. So the guy being arrested was ordered to stand up, he couldn't. Thank god the first officer knew the whole thing was bullshit, otherwise the man would have been shot dead.
I saw that video -- it was absolutely insulting to watch.
The older sergeant knew the whole thing was wrong and the claims against the wheelchair bound man were bollocks; the younger officer was so low IQ (for obvious reasons) he couldn't seem to register common sense if it bit him on his arse.
The lieutenant in the office literally did not care.
That whole situation was an absolute farce.
Even as someone who wants brandishing laws loosened, this is 100% a crime that could go way worse than just "brandishing", in some states it's considered aggravated assault and you're looking at 5-10 years in prison for flashing a gun.
That doesn't match what the news said. The news said that the case was dismissed because she had probable cause to make the arrest because he resisted.
... which still doesn't make sense, not only because I didn't see resistance besides backing up, but I don't see how a question on probable cause is related to the justification of pointing a lethal weapon at someone. Probable cause is simply to make the arrest. That has no bearing on the use of disproportionate force.
Also, he was arrested for resisting arrest, and the probable cause to INITIATE that arrest, was that he was resisting the arrest that had not yet happened.

"Resisting" and "Resisting Arrest" can unfortunately be different things. This is why the term "Obstruction" is used in some jurisdictions. You can engage in Obstruction, which is probable cause for arrest, then you can engage in resisting arrest. However, some states put it all under "Resisting Arrest", or just "Resisting".
What a joke. Every union official should be in prison along with the female cop.
Yet another example of why you should never call the cops for help. Adding power-tripping retards to a situation generally doesn't make it better.
