At the very least, it's a sci fi movie.
If I was doing a movie that takes place in a dystopian future with extensive genetic engineering, id inclue trannies. They'd still be mentally ill but at least scalpel wouldn't be involved
Troonism is probably one of the best indicators of a sci fi dystopian future. One where even gender has become so meaningless its now just another thing you pay to change around for hedonistic pleasure and flashy expression.

If people had the ability to just buy removable dicks and tits as easily as a Funko, it wouldn't matter what they looked like. They'd be all in on that and a lot of very disgusting shit would be normalized because of it.
We'd be well beyond simple trannies and into penis envy women packing just to do it and guys gooning with their own mega milks for days.
It's indicator of shitty writing from people who burned out the last remnants of their imagination with Hollywood sized piles of drugs.
So they just crib what they see in the news and pretend it's insightful to incorporate it into their corporate drivel project.

In the setting where designer biological human body can be made and memory transfered/implanted, there's absolutely no reason to be a tranny who can't pass. Just transfer your 'female' mind to a female Replicant body bruh.
I had to wince when I learned about the episode of Dirty Pair where the trans fool was involved.
Still didn't quite pass, either, not even in anime.
But at least that was the far future, where maybe advances have been made to make it more possible. Maybe.

Right, but the point should be to point out the horrors and abomination that it is -- an honest depiction would show that your lineage ends as a troon, that you'll always deal with the biological intrinsic side-effects of alternating your physiology, and the non-stop pills and HRT required to maintain that facade (which is one of the few good parts about Deus Ex: Human Revolution's story, which highlighted that it would require a complete genetic overhaul at birth to get humans to accept foreign bodies like cybernetics without spending a lifetime on drugs to force the body to accept the changes, and even then, it was an anomaly (i.e., Jensen)).
Instead, this movie will either glorify or gloss over the horrors of body-mutilation, and normalise it, because that is what the media zeitgeist is wont to do these days.
Wrong. In a dystopian future, men will seek to become even more manly and women will seek to become even more feminine, for the sake of biological utility, instinctive competition and general attractiveness-charisma.
You could argue that women would seek to increase their physical strength, or incorporate some other defensive mechanism, but will strive to maintain their feminine qualities.
Sounds like utopia to me. Unless you're going for the "weak times create strong men" broken future narrative.
