They must be crazy to leave their whole country instead of just moving to a safer area. There's no way that even 1/10 of Japan is unsafe to live in yet.
Maybe they just don't know how bad it is already everywhere else, they've seen Japan start to break down up close and can't imagine that any other countries would be doing worse to their native peoples without riots and civil wars.
My wife and I live in a far left hellhole state with one of the most notoriously shitty leftist metro areas in the entire world. Our small town is insulated from it, but it's only a matter of time until our insane government dumps 50,000 rapists here and we have to move yet again.
The other day she suggested we just cut and run. Her idea? Canada. It didn't take much time for me to prove to her that Canada is somehow even worse than this, but the point is people really don't know how bad the world has gotten. There are very few areas left that are safe from the third world horde.
I assume most people don't live outside the city they work in. Within a city it's pretty cheap.
Between cities, especially the Shinkansen, is pretty expensive. I assume people who have to go from one city to the other have some sort of subscription. The Shinkansen seemed to be mostly work travel - you're only allowed to use the slowest of the three trains (which stops at all the stops) with the Rail Pass.

Japan is famous for its mass transit system and the ease to get anywhere in the country. If any of it is unsafe, all of it is.
They just announced a plan to open the borders to something like 1.5M jeets. Sayonara Nippon.
