It was convenient that they used an alternate universe version of Garak and Bashir (now thay I think about it, wasn't it an EMH hologram based on Bashir, not the real dude). But yeah, I never considered Lower Decks canon, I don't care what the faggots who run the Memory Alpha wiki say.

As mentioned in the other reply, yes they did.
Which is always how it starts. Green Lantern Alan Scott was made gay, but only an AU version of him. Until it was also the prime version of him. It's a wedge and the tip of the spear is always aimed off center so the complaints are minimal and dismissed as being less important.

It's also propaganda to convince men to be loners and not have male friends. Family, friendship, and community are bulwarks against corruption and degeneracy, as well as the original safety nets for when we fall on hard times or need help, and the original policing and protection mechanism for people, as we seek the people we're closest to when we're in danger, and those are the people who will drop everything and come to our aid.
This propaganda weakens men in every way, making us easier to control.
