As mentioned in the other reply, yes they did.
Which is always how it starts. Green Lantern Alan Scott was made gay, but only an AU version of him. Until it was also the prime version of him. It's a wedge and the tip of the spear is always aimed off center so the complaints are minimal and dismissed as being less important.

Can't have two men be friends. Can't have a straight man and a straight man be friends. Can't even a gay man and a straight man, or even a gay man and another gay man be friends. Everything has to be sexual.
It's also propaganda to convince men to be loners and not have male friends. Family, friendship, and community are bulwarks against corruption and degeneracy, as well as the original safety nets for when we fall on hard times or need help, and the original policing and protection mechanism for people, as we seek the people we're closest to when we're in danger, and those are the people who will drop everything and come to our aid.

Faggotry is a poison pill to the kind of natural male fraternity you'd find in a Roman Legion or order of Crusader knights. Because such a group would've done something about those pushing aforementioned faggotry by now.
