The ones talking about COVID have an decent take. Forced isolation of people did lead to a general "center-of-the-world" attitude. Online shipping, food delivery, streaming entertainment were already eroding a lot of basic passive social interaction. The lockdowns accelerated it.
A thing they're missing is the common courtesies they're talking about are rooted in living in a high-trust society. The West aren't those anymore. At least not in urban areas. They traded it for diversity. You'd think that could have resulted in in-group courtesy, but instead we got the outcome where everyone is looking out for themselves.

I think the issue is that the in-group is tiny for any individual person, which is a result of living in a low-trust society as you mention. In the shithole metro area I live in a random white dude is only slightly more trustworthy than a diversity import. I certainly wouldn't consider them a member of my in-group until I have good reason to. So that leaves friends and family. We're Balkanized at a much lower level than demographic groups.

Everyone was more or less willing to go along to get along, but when two weeks turned into six months, unease and discontent was expressed by one portion of the population and these people specifically, reddit and/or female, slammed the gas pedal to the floor instead of letting up to see what the issue was.
Trust was crumbling before covid. But they took it out back and blew its brains out and now they wonder why it doesn't come around anymore.
Other than their solution being the rest of us accept permanent mask mandates in the name of shifting the Overton window. If the motherfuckers want to mandate anything to us, they had better have an actual army backing them up. So other than the treasonous dehumanization of us, it's a great take.
