So no, women don't play that at all, but they think that if they put women as leaders, it will somehow create interest.
You forget modern corporate strategy is to alienate the current consumer base in order to appeal to a “broader audience”. Women making up only x percent of the consumer base means we haven’t changed the product enough to appease them!
Of my nerdy hobbies I have seen a number of black guys interested in comic books. Still overwhelmingly male hobby and white guys make up the majority of customers. I’ve only recently gotten into buying Manga but not sure the demographics but I’ve heard there is manga for pretty much every group.
Rest of the hobbies I haven’t seen the justification like you mentioned. I love games like civilization but I’m just one person. Gaming has been down this crazy road for a while along with sci-fi and fantasy book publishing
Do women or blacks even play civ games in any meaningful numbers? Seems like deep strategy would be the whitest, most male genre of all.
