I noticed this too. They are gonna 'Hello fellow MAGAs' real soon, and each time they do this inauthentic highside it'll workout worse. We've seen the same thing since Atheist/+ and Gamergate. Fake asses always fade out.
I used to watch a lot of Let's Plays. Nowadays, they're a dying breed. I'd be hard pressed to name a channel I watch regularly that does that kind of gameplay. Kind of a shame....
Lets plays have been torn to shreds by people making highlight videos, which aren’t bad I just wish more long running series were still made. Too many games are long enough that highlight videos still miss a bunch of stuff.
I think its because most people stream the "Let's Play" portion, and then cut it up into highlights for people on Youtube later. Letting them double dip it.
Makes sense from a monetary point of view for them, even if it brings a lot of obvious negatives for us.
It’s a pain in the butt to keep track of livestreams sadly. Especially if they stream to like twitch or something. Even YouTube is a pain to track livestreams.
I tend to lean toward ones that are more on the "For shits and giggles" side rather than true lets plays. But I do enjoy more serious ones from time to time if the game warrants it.
So to that end, the ones on my list that are some of my favorites:
Non-Vtuber:
GrayStillPlays
The Russian Badger
RubixRaptor
SMii7y (Smitty)
DougDoug
The Black Pants Legion/Tex
Wolfpack345
Vtuber:
Shiori Novella
Raora Panthera
Ceres Fauna Nimi Nightmare
Selen Tatsuki Dokibird
Miori Celesta
Leaflit (sidenote: is hyper based generally, but does more react content these days)
Silvervale
IRyS
Tomoe Umari (If not based, is very openly pro-USA)
updoot for graystillplays. Wish i had seen your post before I posted, for some reason "shits and giggles" didn't occur to me as a way to describe his more recent (last two, maybe three years?) content.
Yeah. I think he manages to hit the sweet spot I like with most of the others I watch where he is still serious and actually trying at the game, but part of the fun watching what stupid shit happens from him trying to play the game. Which is the general vibe I got for, like how RubixRaptor and his friends are actually ok at playing ARMA, but the scenarios they get up to or the typical "ARMA-ing" that happens is usually what results in the hilarious moments. On top of his friends just doing unhinged bullshit for the memes.
He's a lib, and Canadian to boot, but I do enjoy NorthernLion despite that. Politics don't come up that often, but when they do, it's clear he's totally not on our side on most issues. But he's fun.
I don't watch a whole lot of let's plays. Someone already mentioned Splattercat. Retromation is also good. ChristopherOdd as well.
Politics aside, it really all comes down to what sorts of games you like, and what people are playing. All of those I mentioned are often some combination of tactics and indie.
I watch GiantGrantGames daily, because he puts out small daily videos of single missions of Starcraft 2 mods or custom campaigns. A quick 20-60 minute video to cooldown with before bed or after work, with a rare huge video on his main channel. And I've improved considerably through watching him and seeing how bad I was with a lot of things but its not designed as that.
Its 95% Starcraft 2, and only PVE at that, so its for a very small audience but its an overall good time. And rarely he will talk about other major RTS as they come out, and you can gauge them based on that.
I've never heard a political statement out of him, other than him sarcastically talking about the time he went like 50k into debt after a dog bite (because a mod gave the Medic "American Health Care" and he gave that out). I remember that because he almost never talks about his personal life otherwise.
well, the most obvious is markiplier. (i know it sounds basic bitch, but his content's pretty good most of the time) he pretty much steers a wide berth around politics most of the time, and he does a lot of non-gaming content these days (his let's plays with his mom are adorable, by the way). mostly he's focused on indy stuff and indy horror in particular. I think he said something about how he wants to highlight indie developers, because they don't get as much love as the AAA Developers at one point.
i haven't watched a lot of the spiffing brit, but he's focused on breaking (mostly) strategy games to get the most OP builds possible. As near as he can tell, again, no politics.
graystillplays has been a standout for me. He started out doing standard let's play content, but at some point, he must have said "fuck it," because his current content is mostly mocking the game and/or his own inability to play well. two of his longest currently running series are him doing GTA V custom challenges and playing happy wheels, though he also plays a lot of mobile games and the odd horror game now and again. The editing style includes a lot of pop-culture/meme audio clips. dunno if that's a dealbreaker, but there you go.
I hesitate to mention "gab smolders," because I suspect she's slightly woke (normie level), but it rarely if ever bleeds into her content. she plays a lot of story-driven games, both old and new.
that's all i've got that i'm confident enough isn't woke or at the very least is woke-lite. sorry i couldn't be of more help
Fooster is kind of... like genuinely "stupid" though. There's a lot of moments in videos where he straight up doesn't know English words, he doesn't know certain concepts, and he pays so little attention sometimes it's incredibly frustrating. He's like the poster child of why games nowadays have to keep prompts and tutorials constantly popping up in your face.
Fisk doesn't read either but at least he's a mildly-retarded Swede but overall makes better content. I'm not a fan of Fooster's fake laughing, reminds me of the horrible early days of streaming where you had Pewdiepie and the like constantly laughing at themselves, and it was just cringey.
I've been watching them for about 4 years now and I can't think of a single time they've said something woke.
They're Europeans so they're probably woke by default, but Fisk definitely makes a lot of jokes that someone who is True Woke never would. The funniest I think was in the Short Snow video he just posted where he's in the basement of the house and there's two rooms, one with an ironing board and laundry machine, one with pool table and darts, and he says "Oh look, the men have their room over here, and in this room -" and then he turns down the mic so you can't hear the rest of the joke.
I watch The Mighty Jingles and also Flamu because I play World of Hypertension Warships.
Jingles is ex-Royal Navy and a Warhammer 40k nerd and Flamu is from Finland. Neither of them have given any indication that they are woke. They also play other games on their channels.
Zach Hazard does alot of LPs - while I'm sure he leans a tad, hmm, progressive in politics, most of his stuff tends to focus more on all his twisted experience in the military/work and rant on guns in video games, without going into his specific political beleifs.
Accurize is also another guy I enjoy when I'm in the mood to play the Long Dark - he does alot of Long Dark LPs and tends to be a very cozy streamer.
KCD2 showed how many “alt critics” were just dying to jettison the right wing portion of their audience.

At least some people have the decency to save their vods. It's still not the same thing as a properly curated LP, with scripted commentary, though.

Yeah I don't bother with them unless it just so happens to be on when I'm around and it looks really interesting.

Northern Lion is an obvious leftist retard. Shame, too. He’s otherwise fairly entertain.
Yup. He's definitely a retarded leftist Canadian. As you said, shame.
I enjoy OneyPlays.

Edit: i forgot to mention gab smolders more or less plays in long segments of 1-3 hours, often playing the entire game in a single video.
Hey I watch these guys too.

Given how much shit Fooster got for the end of the Quarry playthrough, I doubt it's an act lol
Probably my favorite LPers to watch are CallMeKevin and RealCivilEngineer.
How do you not enjoy Dragon Ball: The Breakers, the best Dragon Ball video game in existence?
I watch The Mighty Jingles and also Flamu because I play World of
HypertensionWarships.Jingles is ex-Royal Navy and a Warhammer 40k nerd and Flamu is from Finland. Neither of them have given any indication that they are woke. They also play other games on their channels.
I like Vinesauce Joel and Vinny. Both play a lot of indie games and tend to be a-political (tho both made quite right-wing jokes on stream)
And before sleep I watch RisingDusk and Voyix because I like roguelike deckbuilders (especially monster train)
Zach Hazard does alot of LPs - while I'm sure he leans a tad, hmm, progressive in politics, most of his stuff tends to focus more on all his twisted experience in the military/work and rant on guns in video games, without going into his specific political beleifs.

I dont watch many full let's plays but I do keep up with indy games through Splattercat
No one has mentioned Pongsifu yet. Easily my favorite gaming YouTuber. He does a mixture of edited highlight vids, extended vids, and vods.
Thanks for that recommendation, I will check out the channel.
