Absolutely. The people in the video themselves are saying that they've been forced off the roads because the tech in "their" cars are snitching on them to local police that they're driving without insurance. EV are fundamentally and nothing more than methods of control.
Idiots like to argue that factory immobilization devices already exist in ICE vehicles, but those can be circumvented by disconnecting the device antenna, flashing the ECU or in some cases simply disconnecting the body control unit from the fuse box. With EVs, absolutely everything goes through the ECU which is locked and inaccessible except by proprietary factory readers. It's not possible to bypass an EV's computer to crank the engine. And again, EVs are not only recording your driving behavior, they're also snitching on you to local authorities and insurance companies.
Only watched the first quarter, but it the video seems to be blending EV insurance rates and commercial (Uber-equivalent) insurance rates into one complaint. With the interviewees saying stuff like their insurance rates jumped after driving their EVs for carpooling services, but not ever separating the two variables.
Yes, because everyone — everyone — in China does ridesharing to some degree. There's been other videos on the topic, but it's the only way to afford a car there. Everyone needs to do a little of it to afford the payments, insurance, and road fees. It's known and accepted there that the govt will fine you a bogus traffic ticket to make up the deficient in their budgets. The fees are around 300 Yuan, or about 1/3 of your daily wages.
Anyhow, you HAVE to rideshare to afford a car in China, which is why the two rates are "conflated." But as u/dagthegnome said, EV's are about control and they're using this tactic to force people off the roads and isolate them. "You'll own nothing and be happy."
"EV adoption crosses 50%." That implies a bit less than 50% of cars in China are ICE. Do the complaints about commercial vs. private insurance in the video impact both or just EVs?
It should be trivial to answer if:
everyone — in China does ridesharing to some degree
EV adoption crosses 50%
They are not hard to separate. Maybe it's hard to find non-rideshare drivers but based on what you've said, there are at least 150m+ ICE rideshare drivers.
Based on how media usually operates, I assume that EVs pay more and rideshares pay more, but they're being stacked to get a more sensational number for headlines.
It's one of the few industries that gov't forces you to contract with, and subsequently one of the largest lobbies in Washington. They "donated" $117,305,895 to Congress in 2024. You know, as a "thank you" to our hard-working politicians.
Evs for China only makes sense if you're not driving around in China much. I've been in business trips in China where I've been stuck in a car for 8 hrs drive from factory town to factory town
If the insurance companies are doing this, it's because the CCP told them to.
Remember: here just like in China, they're not pushing EVs because they want you driving EVs. They're pushing EVs because they don't want you driving.

EVs, crypto, and elections are all easily the biggest "rug pull" scams of the decade.

I'm slowly starting to realize that insurance is a giant scam

Yes, I've seen videos of that too. Fucking absurd!
