It's this IDpol on steroids that's made me notice. Nobody ever does anything "for no reason." They might not have a good reason, or a justified reason. But there's always a cause and effect.
If they said "Oh, they were intolerant towards different religions!" or even "Oh, they thought they were inferior!" That might slip under the radar. That's probably why the Nazis make for such perfect villains for normies, since racism was one of their many reasons and all of their legit grievances got lost in the sauce. But pulling out the "Dindu nuffin!" card makes it clear that you're trying to hide something. You're actively trying to invoke the "second foul gets called" principle.
The implication is that their reason is just a love of causing misery for others.
This motivation makes sense to the people who make up the Powers That Be, because many of them do enjoy causing misery and suffering for others for no reason.
