Why did "The Apprentice" movie fail, Variety asks? One of the possible explanations they don't offer, maybe it's a bad movie. (archive.ph)

That article feels like it was written by two different people. The entire thing is surprisingly reasonable and logical about how "accusing the president of a crime might not go over well after he already threatened to credibly sue you once" and "people act like we are already living under a dictator and quiver in fear." Even acknowledging how its a completely worthless movie that only has appeal to anti-Trump people to begin with, who won't care about something that doesn't paint him as Mega Hitler.

And then the final paragraph completely contradicts that and says he is Ultra Hitler already in power of his authoritarian regime scaring good people into cowardice. You can see the shift almost happen like a light switch where it goes from "reasonable anti-Trump perspective" to full blown TDS.

It's like the editor stepped in and said "hey you humanized Drumpf a little too much for our readers so I had to spice up the ending for you."

Maybe because there was no real advertising, virtually nobody knows about it, it's nearly exclusively trying to appeal to an American audience which makes it sure to flop internationally, and the most important factor of all: Nobody wants to see it. Nobody against Trump actually wants to watch his story, and nobody in favour of Trump wants to watch a hit piece. This movie appealed to nobody, so nobody saw it.

Good or bad I think for once the article has the right idea.

TDS sufferers don't want to watch a 2 hr movie where Trump is the main character. Especially when they can only downplay his success so much.

People who like Trump don't want to go watch a 2 hr hit job.

The 10 people left on the fence would rather watch something besides a faux biopic. This movie is for an audience that doesn't exist. Maybe the fart-sniffers at Cannes, but certainly not real people.

It's a little like magicians being mad at a performer giving away the trick. No, you guys can release this obvious propaganda piece weeks away from the election, how can we plausibly deny It's propaganda?

Leftists don't want to see it because it's about Trump and they are comfortable in their self-righteous assessment that he's the worst bad evil man since ever so they're not going to pay to see it. In their heads it's for the right to see and learn from how bad the bad orange man is, and then they should feel bad and go home and self immolate.

The right won't see it because it's a 100% bullshit vanity project that's not even dressed up properly as a biopic because it's not close enough to truth to qualify.

It's got nothing for everyone.

Maybe because nobody ever heard of it.
