I have a feeling it's nepotistic hiring than active subversion given:
This studio are run by idiots that screwed up milking DC so need Harry Potter to remain solvent but forgot to blacklist the people that led them to this mess.
J.K. Rowling has an iron grip on her IP, she's done diversity and 'they're gay now' with characters but trans seems to be her redline thanks to 'cancellation attempts'
There's a third reason too, the main actors from the films have badmouthed her despite her work being the reason they are famous, the only ones I remember not doing that are the ones that have died, the guy who played Malfoy and I think Ron hasn't too so what better way to get back than have a series better and more detailed than the film so fans go to that first.
Be like pulling an FMA or FMA Brotherhood for Harry Potter.
Ron dipped on acting after his early jobs post Potter had no traction. He was a realtor last I heard.
Ah one of those 'I made my money and fame and now I'm going to dip at my height' kind of guys?
If so, I can actually respect that.
Pretty sure he bought an ice cream truck and did that for a while.
based
Are you talking about the ginger best friend actor? He was in an M. Night movie just last year.
Rowling usually maintains pretty tight control over her work, though. In fact, this quote is part of the article, from that same guy:
I think this means that their ability to subvert is limited. They’ll be stuck with doing stuff Rowling agrees to, which I would expect means we might see a “more diverse” main trio—she’s signed off on a black Hermiome before—and we might see the insertion of extra gay stuff for Dumbledore, or maybe some Jewish students, or anything that plays into her habit of grafting in extra brownie points things that didn’t really exist in the original versions. What we probably won’t see is wholesale departure from or subversion of major plot points and character traits. We won’t get “actually, James Potter was kind of a douche,” we won’t get trannies, etc.
They put a Tranny in the Hogwarts Legacy game and she didn't stop them.
True enough, perhaps her guard is slipping. Although my guess is that she just cares less about video games than she does about other media.
Wasn't that more a hinted at tranny than and out and out necromorph type? Like I swear hey just gave a stocker woman a male voice actor than make the character look like they're on 15 different drugs to live.
No there's a line of dialogue where it says its goblin friend was the only one who understood "when I realized I was a witch instead of a wizard." It's fully explicit.
That's ham-handed even for them.
Ah ok, never played the game, only saw clips because of the drama for streamers because of it so remembered there was something but couldn't remember how in your face it was.
That comment is just dripping with spite. These people are obsessed with corrupting good IP for modern audiences.
And he flat out admits that he doesn't want the project to succeed. And he ought to be smart enough to know that his way has resulted in massive commercial failures in the TV and games domains.
He just wants to destroy what was good and push a political message.
Coincidentally I'm rewatching the old Harry Potter movies. While I don't like how some coincidences and epic timings just happened to move the plot along, I do miss when movies were very satisfying to watch.
The Harry Potter areas at Universal have tons of rules. The lawyers for Warner Bros show up as guests to see if the workers say the full name and do specific things as required by contract.
(((Greenwald)))
I don't like to nooootice but it keeps happening
I’ve been called a book purist for criticizing modern adaptations. I get certain things in a book don’t translate to screen or there are time constraints (like not having battle of the Shire in LOTR). Just seems like modern day adaptations are vehicles for a hack showrunner to inject their viewpoints or social agendas like Wheel of Time or that Anne of Green Gables Netflix show
The Scouring of the Shire should have been removed from the book too. Does nothing for the story and kills the ending. His books have so much unnecessary fluff and distracting crap in them, any decent editor could take a hatchet to them and lose nothing.
I can understand. If I like an author I don’t mind extra stuff like that and that is much more tolerable than some showrunner injecting their crap into someone else’s story like diversity, lgbt, refugee allegory, etc.
But from an editors view there is plenty you could cut
I'd cut out the 4 chapters of gandalf and pippin riding across the plains and talking about rohan and grass while we just left frodo and same on a cliffhanger, frodo possibly dead from Shelob. Oh and bombadil. Put that over in the Hobbit and have the sword just be a gift from Bilbo.
Terrible pacing all round actually.
The one thing the movies shouldn't have cut was the mouth of sauron. That changes everything.
The OG movies had plenty of diversity in the side characters and nobody gave a shit.
But these creatures will waller on about how it was all racist and everyone hated the minorites and blah blah blah.
You're gonna have Nigmione and Ronigger and you're gonna be happy about it.
Accusations of bigotry are really just accusations of failure to sufficiently kowtow to leftist ideologies. The problem with previous representations of women and minorities is that they weren’t anti-white and anti-masculinity. So the real first female and minority heroes are the ones who also espouse leftism.
I wonder what kind of creative veto JKR has. How funny would it be if they spend 100 million diversify and trans it up just as a "fuck you" to her and she shit-cans the whole project at the last minute?
I’ll bet the trolls will have small noses
I don't remember reading Harry Potter and the nepotism hiring that killed the franchise.
Must be a new edition.
