So when the leftists sweep the vote it's "a new day, and things are wonderful", but when rightists do, leftists riot, loot and pillage because the rightists are destroying democracy?
You should check out the Socialization (pre war) and Stalinization (post war) of Europe. In almost every single case. Communist parties literally assume that they will get 100% of the vote. They then proceed to get completely wrecked in an election by the general population that was never ideologically captured, but only voted for a couple benefit programs. They Left immediately resorts to riots, terrorism, and claims of a stolen/fraudulent election. If there is a crackdown, they assassinate people and start a revolution. Otherwise, they pressure constitutional reforms that establish a Communist/Socialist state without a vote, because a Leftist government that doesn't allow voting is more "Democratic" than a Liberal Republic that does.
This is actually the reason why the Founding Fathers were anti-Democracy. Democracies are inherently tyrannical. None of them actually require voting. Voting is an entirely separate mechanism to Democracy.
Just speculation, but I think -- like the Americans -- the "right wing" French have been more openly anti-immigration and anti-Islam than the English for awhile, so there's less desensitization that needs to take place to get the French populace on board against leftist rot. The English are still largely hamstrung by performative civility, just like my fellow Canadians.
Edit: I want to add that while I think the proportions of the population against leftism in each of the UK and France are about the same, I think the Overton window has progressed further in France.
I don't think it's just about the Overton window, but the willingness to make a fuss. We give the French bants for what their culture contains, but they've always been more willing to defend their culture than most of Western Europe..
The Brit will keep a stiff upper lip while you take everything from him.
The Frenchman will start a revolt in the streets if you oversweeten his macarons.
Like when the Académie Française told them to fuck off with their "gender neutral" language bastardizations.
I ended up leaving it out of my first comment, but I considered bringing up the yellow vest riots as support for what you and I are both saying. As far as I can recall, those riots went on for about a year with very little international coverage beyond the first couple months. Many French certainly stood up for themselves then, which comes off as especially admirable and sincere with so little attention.
I also wonder if their willingness to show backbone has something to do with France being the main battleground for both WWI and WWII.
Given the signals they've been making, it sounds like the finance sector is prepared to do to Le Pen what they did to Liz Truss. In fact, it kind of sounds like the plan to take out a resurgent right is to basically allow the economy to collapse.
This is basically what they are trying to do with Milei in Argentina; but it doesn't seem to be working because he's still smashing the bureaucracy and bringing down inflation and spending (slowly).
Le Pen won't win because the dignified moderates will ally with the communist radicals and the Islamic bloc, which definitely won't have any serious long term consequences.
In 2015, Michel Houellebecq published a fiction book called ''Soumission'' ( litterally the translation of ''Islam'' ) about an Islamized France in which the two voting options boiled-down to the far-right or islam.
Hypothetizing that France would elect a coalition of Leftists and Islamists to rule in 2022.
So he was off by 2 years.
Ironically, Charlie Hebdo published carricatures mocking the guy and the lack of muslim terrorism during the year. That edition of Charlie Hebdo came out on the day they got gunned-down by a muslim terrorist.
It's always the left that threatens violence if they don't get their way. But according to the media and leftist politicians the right is "a threat to democracy".
She is the typical "safe" far right candidate, similar to Meloni or Farage. Someone the establishment pretends to oppose, so real far right parties can't take hold.

Do I have that right?
That's how "their democracy" works.
Everyone champions democracy so long as it gives the correct results.
I’d rather live under the despotic rule of one good man.
I believe that's the playbook
Democrazy
Yes.

I've been watching CNBC.

Seems like too easy a pun to pass up.
Imagine that, immigration might be reduced by 20%.
Edit : Aaaand the establishment won against the ''far-right'' ( left of 1990's US Democrats ).
I seriously doubt that. Le Pen ousted her own father from the party for being too right-wing for her tastes and she cut ties with the German AFD, because she is against mass deportations (https://www.barrons.com/news/france-s-le-pen-distances-party-from-germany-s-afd-over-immigration-row-f903b7a2).

a ringing endorsement.
Literally: all moderate economic and mild immigration reforms will break loose.
Le Pen isn't even as radical as Milei.
that's a threat
