The thing is, they haven't done anything in years, and apparently a sexual assault scandal involving someone up top truly destroyed what was left of them. Most of their top talent was already gone and formed Studio Trigger, and Anno got sole rights to Evangelion (not sure if Studio Khara is another "Gainax peeps who left Gainax" thing).
Sexual assault? Real or the kind blizz and rocksteady had??
This is what I saw on the matter. Yeah, ANN, so take that as you will.

A sad day, hopefully their properties remain in Japanese hands.
Yes, but imagine if it doesn’t. You could have a Disney produced live action evangelion adaptation! Asuka will be black! Gendo will be a woman! The fact it’s Lilith down there will be cranked up to 11 and the angels will represent the PATRIARCHY. The theme song will be from whoever their latest pop music product is. the plug suits will be made into burkas so as not to encourage the male gaze (except for Shinji’s, who will be played by a transgender actor). IT’LL BE GLORIOUS!!
I will burn the magic kingdom to the ground if they even DARE touch Evangelion
(In Minecraft for legal reasons)
Not to ruin the mood of your joke, but Gainax doesn't even own EVA, Anno got sole ownership of it, and he ditched them.
Anno is a smart man.
For all his faults as a creator, he has never been a let down as a businessman.
Even when he literally ran out of money creating Eva, he turned still/looped shots of over a minute into pieces of art people debate about the significance of.
When I saw it for the first time last year, those still shots were a riveting change of pace from modern American ADHD fare.
One reason I fell in love with Eva.
You could probably call me a fanboy now, since I've been soaking up info on EvaGeeks' wiki.
The sheer uncomfortableness of the elavator or the palpable dread of the Kaworu scene are proof that in the lack of something, humans will fill the gap for you. Something I think all "creators" need to understand rather than constantly be trying to "maximize" every scene and dialogue.
Anno did it mostly by accident, as I don't think he is some super genius, but it worked. Just like the way he threw in a shit ton of words he didn't understand (such as all the Christian and Gnostic names/themes) but because they sounded cool until a few of them just worked.
You go to hell right now for speaking this kind of evil.
This.
Gainax has been a corpse for a while, as infamously they were treating their animators pretty badly. Hideaki Anno created Studio Khara in order to be able to make the Rebuild of Evangelion movies, and Studio Trigger (the studio responsible for Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, Darling in the FRANXX and Promare among other things) was founded and is staffed by primarily former Gainax employees.
Panty and Stocking is one of the shows that Gainax made, and I'm assuming part of the reason the second season has been delayed for so long is because of these rights issues.
Don't forget Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon.
Adaptations aren't as relevant to studio talents unless they really fuck them up or somehow massively improve them. I don't know anything about the last two, but KLK and LWA were anime originals.
I was more surprised to find out Gainax was still a thing. I'd just assumed that the company had ceased existing years ago.
