I don't see how they are. Something could be very progressive or liberal or whatever you want to call it for its own time, but through changes in society, media, etc., be definitely illiberal or unprogressive by more recent "standards."

Since when are the people in question every satisfied with things as they were in the past? That's a large part of what makes them progressives. Again, some piece of media can be progressive for its own time and yet not progressive enough by ours. They change even the older progressive things because again, they are not progressive enough.
