Now let's talk lost money in comparison. By the way, they've just announced they're no longer tracking box office on it, and it never even made $100m domestically in that whole run. They thought they'd have that on opening weekend.
Napoleon and Flower Moon were also paid for up front by Apple to eventually get exclusive streaming rights on Apple TV. They could have gone through their entire theater run without making a single penny and they still would have broke even because it was Apples problem (and that kind of loss they make up for in a few hours selling Iphones).
It is very different from Disney who insist that they will not allow anyone else to have their movies and so have to rely on Disney+, which is still in the hole and losing money hand over fist each quarter.
I'd rather watch them rationalize why Wish failed so bad, tbh.
Also, Blue Beetle technically dethroned Barbie as the number 1 movie, take that, feminists, latinx rule or something.

As do I but I’ve come to a realization in my old age: I hate crowds. Could be my body not tolerating sitting down for 2 hours or more. Could also be my intolerance for Shaniqua yelling at the screen with their sistas or Karen talking on her phone while her two crotch goblins run amuck. Either way, I feel I can wait for a physical release (or the seven seas.)
I've come to the realization I hate being in crowds. I love being in front and entertaining. Also, the theater is different depending on the neighborhood. Shaniqua is ghetto, and you need to get ready for commentary. Its the reason why I can understand Chinese but not speak it. Jackie Chan responds to any language I yell.

Plus they're scraping the bottom of the barrel now for the Marvel movies. They're literally digging into the failed feminist comics and getting surprised when they make failed movies.
It's definitely both. That these recent capeshit movies have been so heavy on the "shit" part has only exacerbated the fad's inevitable end.
Thing is, they were right for the wrong reasons. There isn't any hero fatigue, it's just "The message" fatigue. People are fed up with the decline in quality, and no amount of nostalgia from previous instalments can keep the momentum going forever.
