It should have died years ago, the rehashing of the same characters, again and again and again was only going to last so long. They should've come up with something new but decades of playing it safe then slipping into pandering means it's outlived it's shelve life.
It's insane that when the MCU became the most popular thing in the universe Marvel comics was putting out stories with fat Squirrel Girl, Carl Manvers, Lady Thor, gay Iceman, etc etc.
I predicted the Marvel sjws were forcing these stories in order to push them into the films once all the white guys contracts were up, which was 100% accurate. So now they've not only squandered 60 years of successful comics, they're taking the MCU with them. Truly a market debacle for the ages.
I often think about how much money is being left on the table by leftist producers.
Look at Returnal. Game looks pretty cool on first glance. Great graphics, compelling gameplay. But the protagonist is a homely middle aged woman. So I’m out. Not interested. And I know I’m not alone. So how much money did they lose with this one design decision? Is Returnal a significantly bigger property if the protagonist is a reasonably cute 20-something who avoids feminist-speak?
You can apply this thought experiment almost everywhere now. What if the Hawkeye and Loki tv series were about Hawkeye and Loki instead of their female replacements? What if the Star Wars sequel was about the entire ensemble cast, men included, instead of just Rey? Would Hollywood be enjoying record profits instead of one gigantic flop after another?
What if the Star Wars sequel was about the entire ensemble cast, men included, instead of just Rey?
That wouldn't have saved anything about it. The sequels fail at worldbuilding in a way that makes it hard to work with. A focus on Rey isn't the main problem, it's the insane power scaling, the catastrophic lack of worldbuilding and being a jumbled mess of a trilogy because there was nobody with central creative control to plot out a basic outline that the lower writers need to stick to.
JJ Abrams put in charge of a Star Wars movie was a disaster decision. Classic Hollywood. Despite Star Wars inventing the modern blockbuster, none of them understand Star Wars.
Soylo was meant to be a trilogy, and it might have been if Kathleen Kennedy had let Lord and Miller finish it the way they wanted. Even despite Dong Lover.
The Force Awakens was one of the biggest movies of all time and then Episode 9 barely outearned Joker despite Joker not being released in China. Destroying the biggest movie franchise on Earth that badly is really impressive.
Eh, quite a few series suffered from "MCU synergy" as it's now called. Recently Ms Marvel was killed off and brought back as a mutant because that's what her MCU version is going to be. The fact it was done in Amazing Spider-Man was a slap in the face of both sets of fans because she's never really done that much with Peter before.
Additionally, the Guardian's of the Galaxy line up in the MCU is only one of the more recent versions, the original was a completely separate group, minus Yondu, who actually cameo in the second MCU film and appear again in the third. Then there's the changes to various Eternals characters to match the MCU versions. The comic setting is still very different from the MCU one but Makkari is now a deaf woman in the comics just like in the MCU, despite formerly being a talkative guy.
I shudder to think what era the MCU is going to pick for whatever X-Men they go with because they've never done anything except "the school" despite the recent Krakoan stories, Utopia, Schism, Genosha, or any of the other big events. That all said they could always go full retard and adapt the San Francisco stuff because even just the setting would be a literal on fire dumpster.
You are right. I guess I meant in the sense that the characters that were popular. I heard stories about kids going to comic book stores wanting iron man and being disappointed at seeing riri. I heard about the Ms Marvel thing. I wish someone who actually cares could get the rights to Spider Man.
I have some original Guardians of the Galaxy comics. I know MCU was a money maker at first but they couldn’t wait to push diversity. I remember the all new all different marvel bombing and they of course attacked fans. That’s when I stopped a good chunk of my subscriptions. Just like Star Wars, marvel selling to Disney was a mistake

The fact that episode seven puts everything back to square one the way it did almost makes me believe it was a Great Reset psyop.

It's more about subverting/destroying cultural icons than anything.
Can you imagine how much money marvel lost by not capitalizing on the MCU characters instead of pushing terrible characters solely for diversity

This is your semi-annual reminder that the US Comic industry has degraded so much that just the merch for Demon Slayer outsold all US Comics combined.
Accessible home video killed the format more than anything.
