Remember Mass Effect 2? Remember how you wanted to save every character during the final mission because they were all good and likable? I don’t even want these modern rpg characters in my party at all. It’s hard to even put together a full group in these games anymore without including at least one turbo cunt or degenerate, and the devs generally won’t let you ignore or Jill them. It’s just enforced LGBT and feminism now.

Its a shame that the "Rivalry" aspect from Dragon Age 2 never took off, because that could be the saving grace to most of these characters. Just the ability to have them in your party, developing their relationship and questline, and its entirely based on calling them out, insulting their stupidity, and making sure they know they are only there for what they can provide.
But that would undermine "The Message" of the character and lead to some ugly screenshots for twitter, so we can't have the option to disapprove of these characters at all.
That's what bothers me about this. The existence of these woke avatars doesn't ruin the setting (at least in small numbers), the fact that they're treated as normal does. If they had the balls to treat it as abnormal or even notable, and let the player respond accordingly, it could even strengthen the setting. Instead, everything has to be safe and inclusive, and the integrity of the setting is destroyed in the process.
I agree, and its something I enjoyed a lot about the earlier Bioware games. They had the annoying wokies trying to preach, but you could call them out on their shit most of the time and even other characters would get in on it. Anders from DA2 is given endless shit for his whiney "muh oppression" attitude, which would never fly today.
Shit, just show me a gay getting killed just for being gay in one of these settings, instead of the homophobia being toothless and safely evil like it always is.
I'd still take my favourite brain adled ranger who talks to a hamster over these likely self inserts. That's how poorly these not mentally hindered, one dimensional 2D characters score in my head.
BG1 didn't have the same companion depth as 2 did which is likely also one of the main features players loved about the sequel. Sure there were some characters who you'd rather launch into the Underdark via catapult like Anomen, or Keldorn, or Jahaera, or Haer'Dalis, sometimes Viconia, definitely Edwin, and a few others, but they were still characters that added to the experience because of both their various personal quests and interactions with both the player and other companions.
And for added fun and insanity there was the option of giving the idiotic talking sword Lilarcor to Minsc just for the concept of how utterly chaotic that pairing would be.
Yeah. The real frustrating part is, plenty of these companies were not just good, but making some of the better games for a while. Larian has made some great stuff. BioWare was making great stuff, as was Obsidian, and both had connections to the OG Black Isle Studios. Now BioWare and Obsidian are churning out some of the most laughably woke stuff. And I don't even know what happened to Larian; by all rights BG3 should have been good. And, outside of the RPG sphere, Blizzard went from one of the all time bests, to a company to generally be avoided.
Are they all the same people who made those better games? A studio is only as good as the people working there, otherwise it's just a name. I'm pretty sure Obsidian isn't the same. Also I believe at least one of the Bioware honchos revealed himself to be a regressive leftist, which - in isolation - didn't interfere with creativity at the time but after TDS set in his cult became mainstream and all culture became a vehicle for The Message.
Mordin’s arc hit as hard as a redemption story can in like any medium. It could never be done today because the devs would be afraid have to explain the justification for the like sterility virus as thoroughly as they did in the main ME series. Or worse we’d have some mincing character whose whole purpose is to dramatically demonstrate the developer’s moral outrage throughout the plot And Mordin wouldn’t be allowed to be as likable as he was
I agree. I don't think Mordin's 180 on the genophage fit his character well at all. Mordin is highly intelligent and logical, it seems absurd to assume he wouldn't have fully considered the ramifications of creating such a virus and suddenly have a complete breakdown because of "muh dead Krogan babbies". Curing the genophage will cause another war. Krogan's are unkillable tanks that breed like rabbits and have a warrior culture where violence and conquest is valued above all else. Gee, I wonder what will happen if their absurd birth rates are restored and they once again need to expand beyond their home planets?

Well Minsc is apparently in the game files so they’ll be ruining him too soon enough.
