In 2008 I was kinda a lolbert who had just started to hear about Ron Paul.
It was also around that time I was starting to get the distinct impression the Reason lolbert crowd (but not Ron Paul) were kinda idiots.
I like Ron a lot but it certainly seems like the majority of the platform is do drugs and be gay but we like guns, too. Libertarianism could never work with the present construction of the US.
Well in 2008 I was more interested in "how does libertarianism avoid this housing and financial collapse thing that's happening right now?" and not finding the answers from the Reason lolbert crowd satisfying.
My thoughts around "you guys are all just a bunch of fucking degenerates" came much later, around when I discovered guys like Hoppe and Lew Rockwell who made way more sense. Then I found out the Reason lolbert crowd didn't like those guys very much, which connected a lot of dots in my head.
I think it was more that the majority of the supporters were like that. Most of what I remember from Paul at the time was on economics and anti-interventionism.

Yeah I'm sure Dr. Ron Paul, M.D. just wants everyone to be able to wake and bake every day. And then having done so drive their children to school without getting hassled by The Man. Because that's exactly the sort of thing a 70 year old Medical Doctor would think was a great idea.
CAn you believe that there was a time. When conservatives legitimately thought a Romney/Ryan ticket would be materially relevant outcome?
He was a nice guy that followed republican ideals. That's been his go to thing for a long time. His accusations of trump are "I disagree with him, AND HE'S NOT NICE"
i doubt anyone expected this level of corruption and insanity to be possible. I think the Romney types still don't. In their minds, it's still a handful of ner do wells amongst a mostly peaceful but misguided people.
