Let it fucking burn. I hear the tranny jannies are threatening to go on strike after the blackout, which would be the best thing to ever happen to that shithole. The hilarious part about this whole thing is Faggitors being all shocked that Spez is acting in bad faith. We could have told them that the tranny fucker doesn't have a good faith bone in his body years ago.
Ever since they removed Aaron Schwartz from list of founders
Before today I only knew Aaron Schwartz as a pro free speech founder of Reddit (I won't call it Faggit this time since it wasn't a troon infested shithole when he part of it). Having just checked out his biography I'm convinced that the Bathhouse Barry regime Epsteined him. It's clear that he was a massive thorn in the side of some powerful people, and I doubt his pro free speech stance on Reddit earned him much sympathy from the powers that be.
Ever since he died reddit went down a dark path. It does make me wonder if he was the only one standing in their way.
Schwartz broke real laws in attempting to copy a publication database. Breaking and entering, physically wiring his computer into a private network.
Ok for a 'good' cause, whatever. Problem is he did it in the dumbest way possible.
The planted computer was on the free Wifi network, but he actually went into the network closet a second time to retrieve it, which is when he was caught; you don't rob the same bank twice for fuck sake. Even if he had gotten away with it he was setting up a rival college to take the fall, so they were pissed and weren't going to give him a break. He didn't properly rate limit it either, and a rinky-dink 10 requests a minute service is going to notice and break when it gets 10 a second instead.
Plenty of smart ways to clone that database, but the point here is the guy was an idiot. Terrible decision-making, terrible execution. Totally believable that he'd 41% himself rather than do six months and be a felon.
I've way out of the loop here, what's going on over at Reddit? I haven't even thought about that shithole site for months.
They're charging extortionate amounts of money (think millions per year) for access to their API. The plan is to kill 3rd party apps and make everyone use their shitty app and so they can push ads on people. This pissed off the tranny jannies because they use 3rd party tools to censor wrong think, hence the blackout to try to make Spez the tranny fucker backtrack.
Haha, nice. I'm so glad I walked away from that place. It consumed my internet browsing habits for far too long.
Doubtful. They went dark because they're Reddit mods, and they're on a power trip. They've tried to spin all sorts of dumb little excuses, from appeals to fairness to accessibility, but they're Reddit mods, the exercise of power is the sole reason.
I'm pretty sure they are raging because this effect the automod they use to lock everything down.
The funny part is that allegedly these censorship apps leeching off of Reddit's API are more profitable than Reddit itself.
I'm still shaking my head over the CEO of Reddit coming out and saying "we're not profitable" while they're getting ready to IPO.
Isn't that how almost all of these big internet companies work?
They are giant money sinks and when they run out of money they start a new round of investments ... to pay off the previous investors. But it's totally not a pyramid scheme because they're planning on becoming profitable ... eventually.
It is easy to be profitable with a website, but the infestation that is currently killing reddit is allergic to anything remotely capitalistic and wants everything for free.
Yeah, but they don't normally come right out and openly admit they're just lighting piles of money on fire.
this. they take money from dark money political activism groups like media matters. there was even a memo that leaked on it around 2018 or so. it specifically said they're going after moderation roles on all the biggest groups on social media, and then will use tech to make it impossible to post anything that isn't in line with their political goals.
the censorship tech they're running uses the APIs so much to constantly scan all the comments and all the edits. if the API starts costing money, they will literally spend millions more a month because they're powermodding over 10k subs, and their censorship tech is scanning everything.
THAT is why these subs are going dark. it has nothing to do with some independent app being better than reddit's official dogshit app.
reddit died like five years ago, at least to those of us paying attention
why the fuck do i see bullshit like this on here everyday? wtf is wrong with all you retards that still visit that site?
Moderation bots have already been given an exemption from the new API terms. That concession was officially made even before u/spez's AMA. Reddit understands powermods' needs.
They want an Initial Public Offering to make reddit publicly traded, so they're killing off things investors don't want.
It'll also make those that use those things move on, too.
So good luck Reddit. Your IPO depends on your user base still existing after you tear out everything they want.
They ultimately just want more control over the user.
And something tells me they also want the tranny jannie force gone too, due to them being well, themselves.
Replaced with something even worse and more censorship happy no doubt.
Lmao I got banned from r/oddlyterrifying because I posted in NewNewNormal. R*ddit "mods" can go fuck themselves.
It's actually been brought up as a reason. Not for "misinformation" (they obviously don't admit to that), but they want to check what other subs you post to.
The excuse example they used was "banning people who post NSFW content from visiting r/teenagers", something they need 3rd party apps/bots to do easily. But the same mod tools are clearly also used for censorship.
I've been banned from subs I never commented in just because I downvoted some comments. I'm certain that's the only reason the mods care about the API changes is that they can't do shit like that
Actually, the bot that banned you, is what is getting kicked off of reddit. The mods are upset because they won't be able to download apps that do this type of stuff for free, but must pay for access to reddit using anything that is not the direct website. They are kvetching because this will block out not just the spam bots, which they actually don't care about (the intent behind these changes, as well as getting revenue from no adds browsers), but it will block the mod bots they use to censor everybody they disagree with mercilessly without listing a finger.
That process is phenomenally stupid, but also why I never posted in reddits KIA2 /r/, because I knew I would get locked out of a few other /r/ I liked participating in. Turns out I got done in by some tranny complaining about my assertion that trans is a mental disease. So now when I go there I have to engage in a multi-level process to avoid their ban detection process. I truly hope more and more people come here an leave reddit to die in filth.
I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face. It's a perfectly valid stance to think that charging 24 cents per thousand API calls is taking the piss harder than R Kelly while also thinking predditor jannies are fucking pathetic for a whole 2 day "protest". Personally, I'm just waiting for people to turn to a mix of the old days where people hosted forums that were disconnected from each other and using modern day P2P hosting to allow for decentralization.
Hahaha, sure. They're here, trust me. Give it time and you'll see them. The flaw is systemic in the way internet communities function. The rules of the system inevitably create and attract jannies. Every forum functions essentially the same way, the only difference is scale.
Pretty much. Like politicians, the kind of people who want the job are the people who shouldn't be given the job.
A single delusional jannie killed the omegacanada.win community overnight which was the spiritual successor to r/metacanada that voluntarily went into archive-only mode years ago.
Sadly, thereโs no art or parenting communities here, so Iโm still sad that my 12, 7, and 5 year old accounts were simultaneously banned on Reddit. It was really useful for hobbies and parenting tips/discussions.
Yet. They aren't run by delusional jannies yet. Delusional troon jannies will always try and seek the power to censor and control people's speech, even on dot win.
