I don't understand your confidence here in light of your other comments that do indicate an understanding of the game they are playing. Biden was one of the worst candidates anyone could field. He's got decades of a public "service" record over Newsom, marked by years of corruption, sliminess, impulsiveness and aggression to anyone in his path, and a previous failed campaign he was forced to abandon because he was caught brazenly lying about personal experiences that didn't happen. He barely campaigned this time, and made multiple flubs that would have killed any other nominee. Trump could not have asked for an easier opponent. They proved they could literally run a ham sandwich and win. Even with Newsom tons of "discrepancies" would show up in the Primary and General and everyone will know it - even the Dems - and the media will still tell us how "The American people love Gavin!"
The only questions are do they want to "waste" him on this election or not, and would he let himself be as much of a puppet as Biden. No matter how loyal a man seems he always wants to make his own mark once he gets into the office.
