Or maybe Velma is just an awful show?

I realized a long time ago where the diversity/representation obsession would lead. This is also why a race or gender swap is an immediate red flag. I think I mentioned before how someone tried to call me a hypocrite for liking Denzel in equalizer or man on fire. I simply said at one time race swaps were sporadic and now they are the norm and they are a clear indication of the motive of the writers. Look at the cast of Wheel of Time for instance.

This show was made like every garbage reboot is made. Piss off actual fans

On a similar note, casting Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury was a race swap, as was Idris Elba as Heimdall. But those were both also well before race swapping was a red flag of ill-intent, they were likely chosen because of their acting ability rather than just their race. And both of them managed to make characters that, even if different from their comic counterparts, were unique and memorable in their own right.

For Mindy with Velma though, I think it has less to do with anything specific about message, and her just being a raging self-important narcissist who self-inserted herself and her dream OC's (donut steal!) into a her own little world, used names that everyone knows to get their attention, but then was so bad at it that even people who have nothing to do with the Culture War are saying "What the fuck?" Plus the fact that it is very obvious she is a very bitter person (there was some evidence that she hates Fred for literally no other reason than he reminds her of an ex-boyfriend).

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury is a special case.

Marvel approached Jackson for the rights to use his likeness for the Nick Fury of the now-defunct Ultimate Marvel universe.

Jackson agreed, on one condition: that from that point forward, he would have exclusive rights to portray the character in films.

TL;DR: Samuel L. Jackson bet on himself, and hit the fucking jackpot.

Marvel never asked to use his likeness in the first place for 1610/Ultimates Fury, he had them over a barrel regardless of what Marvel wanted to do.

Making Norse mythology diverse was the beginning of this nonsense. Don't excuse it.

Plus Fury was black in the Ultimate comics version but I get your point. It was definitely before it was a red flag. Look at Willow. The showrunner talked about how organic the lesbian princess was and I couldn’t help but laugh. So the fact that lgbt seems to have to be in everything had nothing to do with it. But so many seem to think every movie or tv show has to have the set amount of diversity to be good. Everything doesn’t have to include everybody

Okay, you've got me curious: who was Ultimate Hulk?

I only read the Spider-Man, Avengers, and Miles Morales. But some Ultimate stuff was really good. Never read ultimate Hulk what was wrong with it. I think I may sell my Miles Morales first app when he gets a movie because they will hype it big time. I bought it for cover price and now it’s between 500 and 800 depending on where you look. Even my 2nd printing is like 200. What comics do you read most?

it's amazing how most of the race swapped actors can't act despite the apologists saying that they were casted based on merits

Well that’s just an example about it being a red flag. But it was clear the showrunner had no interest in trying to adapt the books so yea a more accurate cast would’ve been just as bad. If you have the time you should read them. 14 books in all but if you have the time they are really good.

Really makes you think.

Ironically DDL is such a legendary actor that he could play MLK Jr. in blackface and probably win an Oscar for it. I mean people would object during production and seethe after he wins the award but he could get away with it.

I still wonder how Robert Downey Jr. hasn't been cancelled for Tropic Thunder, I guess he just pays the right people and votes the right way. I mean he did vote Biden so he is black.

RDJ has talked about that on Joe Rogan. Basically he got lucky that people took more offense to Ben Stiller playing a retard so his part in the movie got overshadowed.

Also he's probably too popular to cancel. It's like when they went after Dave Chappelle, basically nothing happened. Some celebrities are too big for the mob to go after. Only the government can really take them down, like we saw with Kanye.

Doubtful because he publicly told people to fuck off and leave Chris Pratt alone about his religious and political beliefs. It's just because he's one of the most popular actors alive.

he probably would've been canceled if he didn't carry the mcu pretty much by himself. and I just checked, tropic thunder came out after Ironman

Although I think you could do Raisin in the Sun without a race component and it could work. I saw the old movie and liked it. A good writer could rework the story. But you are right. People would howl.

Like Book of Eli. That was a nice twist to learn he had memorized the Bible

animated shows have multiple pillars to stand on, from writing to acting, animation, directing, etc. etc. If any of these pillars fail, the whole thing collapses.

Actors should not take their show failing personally.
