Expanded universe is canon in my head. But in my personal head canon nothing exists after the Disney purchase. Disney doesn’t care about my head canon. Lol.

They are very, very good. Some of the later books center around a Republic special operations squadron that operates behind Imperial lines.
I doubt that they would have made a movie you'd enjoy. Unless you identify as modern audience.
