I don't have a QR code nor do I carry a cell phone.

On the other hand I don't shop at Whole Foods either.

People over at the other place get all upset when I tell them that stores are going to start having bastion entrances. You get on one store's naughty list and you'll be on all of them.

They're going to start making people scan their credit card before letting them in. If you don't have ~$1,000 in credit available and you've been caught looting it's no shopping for you.

We have already met that phenomenon at a restaurant here in Seattle.

They had but one front employee and to order you had to swipe your payment card on their countertop computer to start it up and display the menu. There were no other menus or payment methods, no silverware, no plates, no decor, and no service.

Ask me if I've been back there again.

That’s absolutely fucking insane. There is no way that business model is sustainable. Even in Seattle, lol…

Interesting. Can we get a quick check on the demographics in DC while we're at it?

Almost entirely non-white last I checked.

This is nothing. The point here is that you walk out without stopping by a cash register.

They'll track everywhere I go and everything I buy!

They can do that already. With your card they know what you buy. Tag your face with facial recognition and the security cameras can already track your every move inside the store. Nothing has changed. This is just more convenient since you don't have to wait in line for the cash register.

There is that. One other problem is that it excludes potential customers. Granted, it's a Whole Foods in wealth-ridden DC, so the impact might be minimal here.

I suppose the only valid criticism is that you can't use cash. It does suck not to have the option. If they added one single self-service scanner thingy on a corner that accepts bills, everyone would win.

That's a feature, not a bug.

To add, this is an Amazon thing in general. I think they had an Amazon “fresh” or whatever up in Seattle that did the same thing like back in 2015. It’s meant to be a novelty….. but part of that is it being a taste of the future

"Just Walk Out"

I'll take the advice.

I pay in cash.

You're never, ever getting me to use a phone.

Anyone supporting this, or thinking it is “fine”, is a fucking weirdo. That is all…

This is so fucking dystopian that it’s not even funny. Absolutely revolting.

Sorry, but only in America could something like this even be considered, in DC or otherwise…

The correct response to this is to burn the entire fucking store to the ground.
