All of the money that was used to prop up these companies for propaganda is running dry or so worthless thanks to inflation that it may as well be lunch money.
Which is great, though they can't rely on McDonald's as a fallback, a lot of the ones I've seen switched tills for interactive boards to order so even they got automated!
I wonder if it isn't that the West has crossed an event horizon and now the propaganda simply isn't necessary anymore. If we're already sunk from the decades of psyops, then why would our enemies bother to continue funding said operations?
That or they can't fund it themselves, China is in a BAD state, Russia is dealing with an active war, the 'darlings of propaganda' no longer have the same impact and I'm waiting to see how much of Europe freezes to death due to constant inaction.
The robotic backend could destroy McDonald's. Once there is no reason to have all the workers, there is no reason to have most of management. Suddenly one competent guy is running all the McDonald's in the district and the restaurant is something akin to a soda machine.
Since McDonald's is really a real estate and rental company, having everything change means their actual profits disappear. The mall has 200 restaurants in the food court, and it's run by one guy. He does well, but the companies don't.
If Twitter makes a profit, then all of the other social media companies will follow it. That will likely destroy the reason to be paid for propaganda. The entire middle management and other classes have no reason to exist. We as a people move forward, but the depression from the job losses will be terrible to watch.
I should elaborate, they only automated the ordering process, which is an improvement as have you met the public, I'd want to reduce my time interacting with them too. They now have less on tills, more in the kitchen.
And I think that's the way forward from now on, humans make the product but no longer have to deal with idiotic people ordering taking 5 minutes to order a cheeseburger
I think that perpetuating the removal of human interaction wherever possible will have negative long term consequences. Humans are social animals and if we are making active efforts to reduce social interaction...well that's not gonna end with a healthy well adjusted population.
It depends on the interaction. Most guests I have met don't really want to talk to the staff or deal with people. Talking to equals is different from the help.
Even the people in the kitchen are on a short timer I suspect. I've seen videos of burgers, pizza and coffee being made by vending machines (and I know burrito vending machines exist, just don't know if there's one which makes the burritos or if it's just per-packaged ones). While I wouldn't count on a robot-built burger for quality, or a vending machine for the best food hygiene, I would not count on McDonalds for quality or cleanliness either.
There is also something to be said that Disney and many companies like it are making a bunch of stupid choices off of the idea that they will never fail.
There was a business podcast I was listening to where they were talking about how Florida is planning on building a high-speed rail network to all of its major cities. At Orlando, the rail company decided to look into building stations at some of the major amusement parks. The railroad went to Disney and asked them for a bid. Disney scoffed and said that if anything, the railroad should be paying them for driving traffic. Negotiations stalled, right up until Universal Orlando walked in and said they would be willing to pay for that station, and the railroad agreed.
That is something that won’t be noticed immediately, but in a few years when Disney is losing business because people go to the easier to access Universal, they will scratch their heads and say “what happened?” All because they thought they were hot shit that would never lose.
They thought because of their legacy (all thanks to Walt that they currently trying to distance themselves from) that they don't need to negotiate, they print money, all their products are gold so people should be thankful they are even involved and should pay them for the privilege.

I know. There are robotic systems being promoted right now to places like McDonald's as a replacement for those workers.
scary thing is they seem like feasable options...
Will they be able to program the robots to be snotty, surly dipshits that get your order wrong?
The low quality of most fast food workers is the main reason I stopped going to fast food restaurants.
Is it really all that different than the old automat concept?

Universal has a habit of swooping in and making deals.

And look where that's currently got them..
