The robotic backend could destroy McDonald's. Once there is no reason to have all the workers, there is no reason to have most of management. Suddenly one competent guy is running all the McDonald's in the district and the restaurant is something akin to a soda machine.
Since McDonald's is really a real estate and rental company, having everything change means their actual profits disappear. The mall has 200 restaurants in the food court, and it's run by one guy. He does well, but the companies don't.
If Twitter makes a profit, then all of the other social media companies will follow it. That will likely destroy the reason to be paid for propaganda. The entire middle management and other classes have no reason to exist. We as a people move forward, but the depression from the job losses will be terrible to watch.
I should elaborate, they only automated the ordering process, which is an improvement as have you met the public, I'd want to reduce my time interacting with them too. They now have less on tills, more in the kitchen.
And I think that's the way forward from now on, humans make the product but no longer have to deal with idiotic people ordering taking 5 minutes to order a cheeseburger
The automat was sort of a trick. People pulled the ropes and got food, but it was being placed by people. The system we have now is the same just more open about what is happening.
I think that perpetuating the removal of human interaction wherever possible will have negative long term consequences. Humans are social animals and if we are making active efforts to reduce social interaction...well that's not gonna end with a healthy well adjusted population.
It depends on the interaction. Most guests I have met don't really want to talk to the staff or deal with people. Talking to equals is different from the help.
Even the people in the kitchen are on a short timer I suspect. I've seen videos of burgers, pizza and coffee being made by vending machines (and I know burrito vending machines exist, just don't know if there's one which makes the burritos or if it's just per-packaged ones). While I wouldn't count on a robot-built burger for quality, or a vending machine for the best food hygiene, I would not count on McDonalds for quality or cleanliness either.

I know. There are robotic systems being promoted right now to places like McDonald's as a replacement for those workers.
scary thing is they seem like feasable options...
Will they be able to program the robots to be snotty, surly dipshits that get your order wrong?
The low quality of most fast food workers is the main reason I stopped going to fast food restaurants.
Getting the order wrong? It will happen. Surely jerk? Talk to the engineer in charge.
Is it really all that different than the old automat concept?

Next step in evolution.
