Part of a greater agenda, in my opinion. The NY decree to ban sharing the content of murderers suggests that false narratives are going to be churned out to make incels the new ISIS, with shows like that leading the shift in public consciousness.
Anyone with any level of self-respect and the barest hint of pattern recognition shouldn't have watched either. You would have to force me Clockwork Orange-style to watch any remake/reboot/reimagining/adaption of media I like.
I didn’t watch either. When I first heard the WOT showrunner talk about lgbt representation for his first interview and that he considered himself a feminist I knew he had no interest in adapting the books. From what I have read about the show it looks like he is clueless. I was suspicious about Rings of Power simply due to it being made in 2022
Wheel of Time sanded down all the little parts of lore, and diluted the complicated characters until they were homeopathic medications. Rings of Power is trash-tier fanfiction self-insert by a nine year old.
Wheel of Time was stomped on by directing and production that were desperate to have their names and personal touches attached to a loved and popular franchise.
Rings seems produced to deliberately change, devalue, and alter the original IP for the sake of making it more appealing and popular among people who would otherwise not appreciate it at all.
And what pisses me off is YouTubers who claim to be fans of the books gushing over the show and how faithful to the books it is. Of course anyone who says differently is toxic
I'd say technically Wheel of Time since Rings of Power wasn't a direct adaptation of the source material, and thus can excuse some stuff with "Tolkien didn't explicitly say this didn't happen, so we can say it did!", but having not read WoT I couldn't give a proper assessment, just a gut feeling.
Yep. Wheel of Time was the first fantasy series I was really into. I loved those characters. My friends and I used to guess about what was going to happen (and this was largely pre-modern Internet). We use to DREAM about what a TV show or movie would be like.which actors would play which parts and so on.
When I heard a few of the changes for the TV show I just said nope, not going to fuck up my childhood anymore. I haven't watched one second of it.
I’ve read both but I guess I was just shocked at how badly they could butcher a story. And with Rings of Power they uttered the dreaded “reflect the modern world” crap.
Rings of Power. They literally twisted the story to make Sauron a bizzaro-Elliot Rodger.
I heard about that. Crazy

Of course the unhinged one is the conservative, and the lib is cool, clam, and collected. Just like in real life!

Your gut feeling is right. The books are great. If you ever have the time I’d recommend them
You should never grade evils. For if one is the worst, then you might be tempted to kinship with the least.
