See, I get clips of it from one of my buddies where he'll show me all of the reasons not to watch it (one of the more recent ones involving one of their trans people "breaking" a world record for a game at the event, even though it happened because they literally blacklisted all of the top-10 performers due to not liking them).
sadly yes, it was fun watching them break games.... anyone know where the banned players ended up, or for that matter if theres a competor thats like the old?
I can tell you he's not exaggerating about the "fae" thing. It was AGDQ 2022, so right when this was posted. Somebody linked me a screenshot of the panel at the time. It was Spikevegeta (unkempt nerd and speedrunning's top tranny enabler) and two vtubers. One was a furry, one was the neopronoun creature.
What pains me is that I know some of the OG speedrunners. There's this really cool guy I used to watch named Sinister1 - he was there during the old games of Twitch and he's autistically god tier at Mike Tyson's Punch Out. And regardless of the stereotypes now, he was decent looking, well adjusted, went to the gym, had a full time job, and was a cool guy.
Another guy I used to follow was a fighting game community guy - SRKFunkdoc - super nerdy, but that's about it. Retired to get his masters and now he's a scientist.
These guys probably had a touch of TISM, but they used their tism for entertainment.
Now look at the mess we have... all fucking mentally ill men suffering autogynephelia... blech.
Speedrunning can be interesting from a watching standpoint, simply to see peak efficiency and how to accomplish tasks in manners you'd never consider playing normally. (Which is why glitchless is the only real category, fight me homos)
Its unfortunate that in order to watch that, you need to be exposed to speedrunners themselves who are usually awful all around.
The kind of people who can obsessively play a game over and over again, multiple times a day, for months on end, are not going to be the most mentally sound people.
I haven't watched an AGDQ for years. May as well be named Troons Play Games Quick.

AGDQ has turned into a sterilized, corporate event.
Give it some more time and it'll kill itself just like they do too.

I'll never understand speedrunning and furthermore why these degenerates seem to flock to it.
Let me watch nerds exploit bugs to get to the end of games faster. Will the excitement never end?
Autism
Many speed runners are autistic Many troons are autistic
That’s the link.
