God help us, Climate Nut Chuck is now king
Considering how the UK operates, we're lucky they didn't crown Princess Charlotte.
Charlotte is the Queen's mini me, spitting image.
Can't wait to see the very first multifaith coronation ceremony of the British monarchy.
Won't they just pick whatever faith Charles is...?
Climate cultist?
"And with the power vested in me by Greta Thunberg, I pronounce you King Charles III of the United Kingdom!"
Surely you must know that, by tradition, this makes Charles now the symbolic head of the Anglican Church, no..?
Yes, I know the Archbishop of Canterbury is the actual head, but technically… That’s how Anglicanism works.
I would have thought you might have known that one, re “whatever faith Charles is”…
I was never really into the whole royalty tradition, so I don't really know much past really surface level things.
I just figured, as a British person, you might know… Given, you know, Anglicanism is the state religion of the UK… 😑
Henry VIII made himself head of the Church, when he broke from Rome.
Kind of an important historical fact, that.
But sure, I appreciate it’s not something we think about every day. I grant you that.
Random historical factoids are kid of my thing, I admit, lol…
Not sure why I happen to know this one, whether it was HS Religion or History class, or because my parents were big on Glastonbury Abbey (dissolved during that process), and all that stuff…
Or perhaps because I was “raised Anglican”, lol.
But yeah, that’s… How the Anglican/Episcopalian/Church of England works, so now ya know!
May I ask you what the difference is between Anglican, Episcopalian, and Church of England? I always considered them very similar.
Episcopalian is a subset that I believe only exists in North America. We don’t actually use that term in Aus.
The other two are synonymous. Church of England is the more formal version. “Anglican”… Is a bit broader. Because you have “high Anglican” (Cathedrals. Declining congregations), and the more “evangelical Anglican” (closer to Pentecostal/Baptist. Growing congregations. My local church).
Beyond that it gets a bit wish-washy, but basically… Episcopalian is just a subset, I do believe…
And then amongst the Irish diaspora, it’s really just called “Protestant”, for the most part… Including here, I think.
RIP to Her Majesty.
I'd hoped she'd outlive Prince Charles at least.
Last thing she did, according to sources, was tell Meghan not to be there.
Incredibly based if true
I don't think it's for her politics. It's for her going on Oprah around when Phillip was dying.
It's still very based to tell off that witch.
As far as I heard, none of them really like Meghan, but QE really disliked the cunt because she knew meghan was a SJW whore and didn't want that garbage around the institute of the Royal Family.
Yeah I wouldn't want some mulatto piece of shit whore who's using my dumbass son for a power grab to be anywhere near me either.
The end of an era.
Quite literally the most consistent thing over the last 70 years… She outlived even the empire itself (while still getting pipped by Phillip and her own mother, in age), smh
When Attenborough and Mel Brooks inevitably die… That entire era is gone.
Jesus…
What a fucking time to be alive this is…
I sincerely did not expect to outlive Liz, like, at any point since I was a teen (yay, depression)…
She just seemed like a constant, always there, on the throne since before my parents were even born…
Fucking bizarre.
Fucking bizarre that Jimmy Carter, of all people, has now outlived her, too…
Wow, Jimmy Carter is still alive.
I guess my mind subconsciously marked him off as dead sometime around when H.W. died.
Pretty sure him and Mel Brooks are now the longest-lived current really “famous people” (also Angela Lansbury and Attenborough of course), after the death of Olivia de Havilland and Vera Lynn fairly recently…
Bizarro to think of, hey…
He's also the only one that avoided his family curse of pancreatic cancer that killed his father and three siblings.
As darkly "humourous" as this may be - I don't expect to outlive Charles, either. Hell, right now, I fundamentally do not even see myself making it long enough for his coronation to take place. And I'm actually ok with that. We don't all make it. And at some point, when enough shit has happened, I guess you fundamentally stop wanting to keep going... So... That's fine.
Yeah, today was a very bad day. Found some things out. Some doors closed.
Probably would have been equally bad even if Liz hadn't passed today, to be honest.
Go well.
Weird.
I'm an American, and I always thought the British monarchy was kind of dumb and pointless, but I still feel kind of sad about this.
It feels like the end of an era.
I honestly think that it is. And the end of something far more significant than just “the Elizabethan era” that Truss and the media have been harping on about, this morning…
With Gorbachev and the Queen both gone, we pass into a very different period of history, I feel…
I’m not sure what the path that follows will entail, but I certainly do not think that things are the same as they were, let’s say, even a few months or years ago.
I just hope that I’m wrong about how volatile the following few years may be…
Good, fuck the British
