We have to sides, one saying that "masks obviously do work", the other "masks don't work", both very certain about something that is very hard to establish.
They don’t, I made a post here during the beginning of the pandemic to explain why. Essentially the “studies” they conducted were so bad and fraudulent that somehow masking for Covid has a higher success chance than masking for the flu. The studies they pushed were all done in hospitals that also have negative ventilation, sanitation standards, and where workers were “fitted” with n-95s. Here’s a fun fact, if you have any facial hair to include long peach fuzz you aren’t “fitted” as the fine hairs actually breach the seal. I’ll let you guess how many hospital workers shaved their facial hair before putting on a n95.

Just because you make a post or an argument, doesn't mean that it's suddenly absolute and undisputed truth. You could do that for the other side as well.

Yeah, there's a lot of stuff dodgy about the 'studies' that they push (as there is about studies in general with the replication crisis). But absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. I think that at most you can say that you are not persuaded that masks do work, or that there is no evidence for it, not that you have definitive proof that they do not work.

How very transphobic of you.

"Work" is a nonsense term. It's so vague you could give any answer and be right. Do hammers work? Oh, you said yes? Well I meant as a spray on adhesive. Hammers don't work at all when you use them for that.
Do masks stop disgusting people from sneezing directly into the air? Yes, of course. Does this make them less likely to spread disease? Almost certainly. Is this effect strong enough to have a real impact at the population level? Doesn't look like it, but maybe. Will wearing a mask protect you from COVID? Barely, if at all. Does a non-sick person wearing a mask do anything at all? No.

Yes, they do love their weaselwords. Safe and effective! What is the definition? By what standard are they 'safe'? Or 'effective'? Like Sowell said, everything is a success by sufficiently low standards, and a failure by sufficiently high standards.

Excellent response, because you've obviously thought about the matter, and are not spreading mindless BS because you don't want to wear masks. I think this is unfortunately different from the vast majority of people, who either follow supposed authorities, or who just come to conclusions based on prejudices.
We identified 6 clinical studies (3 RCTs, 1 cohort study and 2 case–control studies) and 23 surrogate exposure studies. In the meta-analysis of the clinical studies, we found no significant difference between N95 respirators and surgical masks in associated risk of (a) laboratory-confirmed respiratory infection
We included 15 randomised trials investigating the effect of masks (14 trials) in healthcare workers and the general population and of quarantine (1 trial). We found no trials testing eye protection. Compared to no masks there was no reduction of influenza-like illness (ILI) cases (Risk Ratio 0.93, 95%CI 0.83 to 1.05) or influenza (Risk Ratio 0.84, 95%CI 0.61-1.17) for masks in the general population, nor in healthcare workers (Risk Ratio 0.37, 95%CI 0.05 to 2.50). There was no difference between surgical masks and N95 respirators: for ILI (Risk Ratio 0.83, 95%CI 0.63 to 1.08), for influenza (Risk Ratio 1.02, 95%CI 0.73 to 1.43).
(There are loads more, but this one explains why masks don't work):
The faceseal leakage was found to represent the main
pathway for the submicrometer particles penetrating into the
respirator/mask. Thus, we believe that the priority in product
development should be given to establishing a better fit that
would eliminate or minimize the faceseal leakage.
Essentially, if you aren't wearing a full face seal, gloves, and a filtration unit, masks don't work.
I won't be responding to comments to this because I have other things to do. I imagine the people disputing more than a decade's worth of research observing the ineffectiveness of masks against respiratory pathogens will likely default to sophistry or cherrypicking for prevarication purposes, at which point it's just a waste of everybody's time.
You know what doesn't work? A thin, barely up to standard mass produced placebo that nobody knows how to properly use.
So the question of "do masks work" is a complete distraction because its a useless question. The question that matters is "will the masks used by this populace be effective?" Even if they do work in theory, it doesn't matter in the slightest if the practice is garbage.
Especially if you force people to mask who don't want to, because they're unlikely to go past the bare minimum.
The issue is that I don't like how people who don't want masks or vaccines feel the need to justify themselves by saying that they "don't work". No, dude, even if they did work, there is no justification for forcing people.
That's just splitting hairs though. They don't work because in order for them to work you'd need both theory and practice to function.
Just the same, 95% of the masks worn during this pandemic literally do not work. They say on the box they don't, they have never been capable of doing so, and are just a placebo. Specific, quality masks can work, but those were never on the table for even those who took it dead serious.

Same percentage as there are (actual) women?
gradually I began to hate him
Much like Venice, a large portion is under water.
He certainly did suggest it.
actually women are the worst offenders as they never shave and most grow fine facial hairs
they do literally nothing to prevent the spread of viruses & you breathe in microplastics and chinese pollutants every time you wear one

If a person is ugly, they for certain do work for something.
Lemme take a fat shit while you wear your mask and let's see if you can smell it. If so that means your mask isn't blocking my shit particles.
No one wears a mask where I live, and haven't for 6+ months, except some East Asian people.
Nor have people made persuading themselves that "masks don't work" a religion.
That proves less than you think it does.
When the blows the against the side of your head, how loud is the whistle?
The only reason you "don't know" is because you're a lazy sack of shit at best and a willfully ignorant NPC at worst.
As opposed to the people who did precisely as much 'research' necessary to confirm their prejudices?
