Not a regular viewer, I didn't know this was happening
Crazy. With dogs and fam went away headed south to Florida with nothing more than a picnic cooler. Good for them, he is a fine addition to the USA. Welcome Viva!
Not really super surprised. While I dont watch all of his streams, I know that he was extremely blackpilled on the future of Canada after their last election and after his run failed to gain even the mildest of traction. So like probably like many a people, he probably said "Fuck it" and fled to a place that at least has a chance to turn around.
I don't watch just Viva regularly, but from my (third hand) understanding this is a temporary move (three years is what I heard thrown out) to help with Rumble/Locals also moving to Florida.
Regular viewer but not a Locals sub:
I am convinced that the 3 years is just am excuse for the work visa and once he is established, they will look towards being permanent. Just my speculation by some of the comments made.
I wonder what the deal is with his wife.
She was some sort of PhD candidate researching vision and neurology at McGill in Montreal.
The move to Florida would indicate she either earned her degree or somehow got permission to continue her work and her studies remotely.
That also makes sense. But if it is three years, that could change his outlook and maybe convince him to make the move permanent. But I wouldnt be surprised if he goes back either, since Canada is still his home after all.
You have give credit to Freiheit for throwing his hat into the ring and running for office in the last federal election last September.
His expectations were really out of whack though.
He mentioned on stream right before the writ that he was predicting that Max Bernier and the PPC would secure about 12 federal seats despite only gaining less than 2% of the popular vote 3 years earlier in 2019 (and ultimately winning no seats despite tripling their support above 5% in 2021).
This prediction suggested that David had no idea how the math works out in a First Past the Post system nor the margins needed to actually win a single seat (no PPC candidates topped 20% in 2021. Not even their leader in his home riding of Beauce, Quebec IIRC, a seat he previously held under Harper as a Cabinet minister).
Frei also ran in his home riding in Montreal that was a Liberal stronghold whose incumbent, Marc Garneau, is a famous astronaut and previously well known Liberal minister (there's rumours Garneau hates Trudeau and has subsequently been stripped of his titles and relegated to the backbenches because of it).
I know Viva was disappointed and likely embarrassed with his showing in the September federal election running for the PPC under Bernier where he only scraped together a few thousand votes while the Trudeau toadie Garneau won with 50-60% IIRC.
But running in an impossible district and losing still seems like a weak basis to justify cutting and running afterwards.
Personally I'd cut and run in response to the whole banking situation that happened up in Canada. Witnessing their government just outright freezing bank accounts for frankly no legitimate reason is quite the wake-up call.
freecanada.win was big mad about Viva relocating to the states, even though they constantly advise each other to leave Canada if they can lol
Not going to lie, it feels a little bit like a betrayal and somewhat duplicitous.
Freiheit never really mentioned anything publicly about the move to Florida until he was already safely moved there physically.
His fellow convoy streamers and supporters were asking why he wasn't there to livestream James Topp's 4300km march against mandates ending in Ottawa June 30th or protests against Trudeau on Canada Day July 1st, which had been planned since the convoy ended in February.
James Topp's team reached out to Viva just kms before the end of his historic march for exposure since he was receiving a MSM blackout. Frei interviewed James Topp (with a distracted James Topp being mobbed by supporters and not giving a shit) from a parking lot halfway to Florida with his haul trailer in tow.
When you think about how long the US visa application process must be for himself, his wife, his 3 kids and his two dogs, it also makes you realize that he was already secretly in the process of fleeing when he was livestreaming the convoy in February and making tens of thousands in Superchats from patriotic and based Canadians, then turning around and using those same monies to fund his own escape.
Then there's the fact that he rails constantly about the jab, but then took advantage of his own two-dose vaxx status to immigrate to the US when he knows that his fellow purebloods would be denied the same privilege.
Now his streams are full of Canadian sycophants still throwing Superchat money at him deluding themselves that "he'll be even more effective now in Florida and will keep fighting for us from afar".
Freiheit obviously has the right to flee Canada and do what's best for his family.
But there's something that doesn't sit right with the way he immigrated in secret to his audience while continuing to make a livelihood and profit off of the very based Canadians he was leaving behind and abandoning out of self interest.
I like his content, but yeah, this has a 'rat fleeing a sinking ship' vibe.
He's stepped on the backs of the folks bailing to reach a lifeboat.
I like Viva's content as well.
He's worked hard to turn a side hustle into a full time gig with tenacity and some luck, much like Nick Rekieta and the Kyle Rittenhouse/Johnny Depp trials, to the point where they both could quit law for YT.
When you watch a lot of Frei's content however, you realize that he's more of an entertainer reading articles and tweets aloud to you like Tim Pool and The Quartering than he is a legal mind bringing much expertise to the table.
He is trained in Quebec Civil Law, which means his expertise is incompatible with the rest of English Canada’s Common Law system and even more hopeless interpreting US law, which is the bulk of content that he covers with Robert Barnes on Sundays.
He also seems like a good father and family man, but it's also apparent that his content suffers from it. During his convoy livestreaming in Ottawa, he was constantly cutting of his streams because he had to drive two hours home to pick up his kids from school "or his wife would be mad". He's stopping streams now mid-afternoon to go fishing in Florida. His streaming is always sandwiched between care of his disabled dogs or parenting his rambunctious kids.
Viva's entertaining, a good host and a good human, but it's also apparent that he does very little research outside of the show (outside of tweeting and digging up tweets), but also doesn't have the legal or intellectual chops to be able to carry a show either beyond a layman's superficial understanding of most topics.
Oof.
If you pay close attention to his Sunday stream with Robert Barnes, Viva will often mention that Barnes will send him a package of US legal briefs as "homework" every week that Barnes plans to talk about in-depth off the top of his head and give commentary, that Barnes obviously has kept up to date with over the course of the week out of pure interest.
Viva many times has to make excuses like a kid whose dog ate their home (ie "I received that one but didn't have time to read it", "I read that one but didn't understand it", "I started reading that one but didn't finish it") when Barnes introduces a new case they are going to discuss.
They have their shtick and it works. Viva is the host and entertainer, Barnes is the legal mind.
Well he is golem. Covertly saving his own skin first should surprise no one.
Can you blame him? I mean just look at what's going on with Tamara Lich. Being jailed for a charge of mischief by a completely biased 'judge'. If I were anybody of note in Canada that was even slightly critical of Trudeau, I'd be getting the hell away from their law enforcement's jurisdiction.
Given Zelensky's trajectory, Canada has only a few years left before all opposition parties and independent media are disbanded. No next-door-neighbor Russia to start a war with them? Doesn't matter. They'll find another emergency to justify it.
Canada is fucked. He's not going to be able to accomplish anything when he gets thrown in Trudeau's gulags. The only chance Canada has is the masses getting fed up and Frei can help with that from the (relative) safety of the US.
Can't blame him for leaving an increasingly totalitarian and corrupt country with a compliant populace.
Alison Morrow interviewed him about it, link:

Main reason he left was for his kids - something called Bill 15 in Quebec which prioritizes the interests of children over all other considerations, including the interests of parents.
You can probably already see how the government making decisions about the 'best interests' for the child over the parents would lead to a ton of issues, especially with an ultra progressive government like Canada's.
The other reasons he listed were the C-11 bill regulating content for YouTubers (i.e. censorship by another name), the government's authoritarian response to covid, the further restrictions around guns (which were already highly restricted), and Trudeau continuing to be a tyrannical shitbag.
He also feels that people aren't pushing back hard enough and this means things are not likely to change in the next few years.
Can't say I blame the guy - I'd probably be looking to do the same if I lived there.
good video, thx.
Some of my butthurt is definitely jealousy that he escaped leaving the rest of us behind.
But I also take issue with HOW he absconded.
He used his vaxxed status and the vaxxed status of his wife and possibly his eldest daughter to acquire a visa to the US knowing full well that US COVID restrictions don't give this same privilege to his fellow pureblood Canadians (and Americans for that matter) that make up a good part of his audience to have the same options.
Then he secretly processed his visa application planning his escape while grifting daily on livestreams pretending he was a celebrity among patriots and freedom fighters, collecting a full time living off his Superchats.
He uses this same Superchat revenue from his audience to fly the coop quietly, not announcing it until he was safely across the border while his fellow compatriates were protesting Trudeau in Ottawa on Canada Day asking why he wasn't covering events.
