Who here misses old Voat?
posted 4 years ago by AbleistSL 4 years ago by AbleistSL +16 / -0

It was a shame Voat never took off because the owner ran out of money, but I do hope he comes back.

The other sites that use the source code such as voat.xyz are not owned by him.

I'm the guy who drove Unidan off the site when he came to Voat early on and started pulling his "Hi everyone, Unidan here, I'm an e-celeb" shit. AMA.

Good god thats a name I haven't heard in a while.

He was just one of the first to get drunk off of fleeting internet notoriety.

All it took was a single comment. I joined Voat during the exodus, and I never had a leddit account before, I just lurked a few subs like half-KiA and TiA. Voat was pretty cool in the beginning, a lot of people were making an effort to make it a good place to be, there were a lot of nerds. One day I was talking to some user who told me about how in his opinion, a lot of why Reddit was bad was powerusers (e.g. Gallowboob; the tranny janny clique wasn't that prominent back then - this was all in like 2015 or so) and specifically mentioned Unidan, I haven't heard of that story before at that point. So I was like, yeah, that sounds pretty shitty, I hope it doesn't happen here too.

LITERALLY THE NEXT FUCKING DAY I see "Hi everyone, Unidan here" and the whole post was so goddamn gay I was worried semen would materialize inside my computer and short something out. So I replied to him, told him about the conversation I had the day before, and, ahem, voiced my displeasure at his queer antics on the internet. My well thought-out and reasoned post must have shown him the way because he never posted on Voat again, or at least not under that username.

Of course, I ended up leaving Voat after a few months too when I noticed the retarded Pakistani teenager I was arguing with was named "waiting_for_hitler" or some stupid shit like that and I realized the place was overrun. Such is life.

It was good, but 'nobody' wanted to produce quality content (books, music, paintings etc) except a few of us. Or even writing longer comments, not just a few sentences in politics etc.

By the way, just heard that r/SocialJusticeInAction/ was banned ("This community was banned for violating Reddit’s rule against promoting hate."), so hopefully many of them will join us here

Voat was the one with the pyramid/hierarchy of discourse, wasn't it? The hierarchy of how posters should behave when interacting with others. The hierarchy that had "no ad hominem attacks/name calling" at the very bottom as a foundation for everything else. The hierarchy the site owner flat out ignored when he would go on ad hominem laced rants towards anyone who criticised the site or called out the behaviour of said site owner.

Yeah, no. I don't miss Voat.

Old voat wass dog shit just like new vote.

Old vote didnt run out of money, the guy had millions in bitcoin. He also loved qanon, and closed on Christmas day as a final fuck you to everyone. The site had dozens of shill accounts and shill subs that upvoted each other all day long and piled on you if you said anything they didnt like. Just lazy meme subs talking about each other all day. There almost no OC on the site.

New voat is even worse despite there not being qanon infestation. Its black pills, gore, and reposts from here and reddit.

It was good at first and then was overrun by Russian puppets. It got the fate it deserved.
