Yes it's the same thing they did in HK. But they could also be experiencing poor herd immunity thanks to their insane zero covid policy. Or it could just be a demonstration of power.

They have many many decades of bad decisions, it's what happens when any logical objections are squashed. This is the regime that thought forcing families to have only 1 child for decades was a good idea. Totalitarian regimes that punish all dissent are destined to fall sooner than many other forms because the problems pile up, never getting corrected until there is a "correction."

Shanghai was the center of a revolt against China's rule. China is reacting like any other despotic regime that follows jewish bolshevik doctrine.

I think it's more the case that government officials way (way) overreacted and now they can't back down without looking like idiots.

They're caught in a negative feedback loop of stupid.

Not stupid but powerless.

Same thing in Canada. Trudeau couldn't back down because he was weak. A strong leader can say he heard them and we're going to stop the restrictions - because everybody knows the people didn't force him to. But a weak leader worries that the people will start making more demands once they realize their power.

trudeau couldn't back down because his WEF owners would just replace him.

Great comment.

Hard to add anything to it.

It is astonishing for many to watch what is happening in Shanghai, a metropolis of 25 million, at a time when most countries in the world are trying to put Covid-19 behind them. It seems that Chinese authorities are determined to view Omicron as deadly as previous variants, even though the medical data – including China’s own official data – says otherwise.

Towns and cities across China are rushing to impose strict travel restrictions and lockdowns as soon as new infections are reported, fragmenting the country. In one extreme case in the Nanhe district of Xingtai, an area with 3 million residents, local authorities imposed a lockdown as a “drill” when there were actually no infections.

Things that can't happen when you have an armed population.

This could easily happen in America. See: last two years.

Nobody was starving. In fact, most people got fatter.

Have too many people? Kill them to stop a plague you made up.

Aren't elections coming up very soon for Xi?

The Party votes for who to lead next. There even used to be term limits, until Xi got rid of them a few years back (maybe 5?), which is precisely when China really started going off the rails.
