John Blake / CNN: "Joe Rogan's use of the n-word is another January 6 moment" (yes, another nothing-burger) (archive.is)

Rogan breached a civic norm that has held America together since World War II. It's an unspoken agreement that we would never return to the kind of country we used to be.

That agreement revolved around this simple rule:

A [w]hite person would never be able to publicly use the n-word again and not pay a price.

CNN is beyond parody.

We never should have allowed anyone to declare a word to be off limits for an entire demographic of people in the first place. We have top 40 songs blaring the word “nigger” nonstop, but half the American population can’t even say this same word out loud? That’s nothing but a demoralization ritual. No one should be subjected to such a double standard, and that includes white peoples.

We were literally forced in public school to read mark twain out loud in high school, n-words and all. What a pathetic liar.

The best part is Huck isn't racist at all, unlike everyone on CNN.

This dude would be shocked at how many of the guys who stormed Normandy used nigger on a regular basis.

Go watch the 1955 movie The Dam Busters. The pilot's dog is a black lab called... Nigger.

Gibson had a dog called Nigger, a black Labrador which was the mascot of No. 617 Squadron. Gibson owned the dog when he was previously a member of 106 Squadron. Nigger often accompanied Gibson on training flights and was a great favourite of the members of both 106 and 617 Squadrons. He was noted for his liking of beer, which he drank from his own bowl in the Officers' Mess.

Nigger died on 16 May 1943, the day of the "Dam Busters" raid, when he was hit by a car. He was buried at midnight as Gibson was leading the raid. The dog's name was used as a single codeword whose transmission conveyed that the Möhne Dam had been breached. In the film, the dog was portrayed in several scenes; his name and the codeword were mentioned several times. Some of these scenes were sampled in the film Pink Floyd – The Wall (1982).

In 1999, British television network ITV broadcast a censored version of the film, removing all utterances of "Nigger". ITV blamed regional broadcaster London Weekend Television, which in turn alleged that a junior staff member had been responsible for the unauthorised cuts. When ITV again showed a censored version in June 2001, it was condemned by the Index on Censorship as "unnecessary and ridiculous" and because the edits introduced continuity errors. The British Channel 4 screened the censored American version in July 2007, in which the dialogue was dubbed so as to call the dog "Trigger", this screening took place just after the planned remake was announced. In September 2007, as part of the BBC Summer of British Film series, The Dam Busters was shown at selected cinemas across the UK in its uncut format. The original, uncensored, version was also shown on 1 and 5 January 2013, by Channel 5. It was the version, distributed by StudioCanal, containing shots of the bomber flying into a hill.

In 2020, Film 4 has broadcast an edited version, possibly re-dubbed in a few places, where the dog's name is removed, addressed as "old boy" or referred to as "my dog".

It'd be interesting to see a chart of the usage of nigger, vs negro, vs black, and absurdity like African American and PoC.

This "civic norm" is only a few years old. It has long been unacceptable to call a black person a nigger, but the current "rule" that you can't say the word at all, which is all Rogan did, is new and intended to elevate the status of blacks even higher, to make it crystal clear what the racial hierarchy is.

It's no coincidence that this development is concomitant with the emerging legal standard that whites may not defend themselves from black criminals, and will be prosecuted twice (state & federal) if they dare to.

Obligatory: Louis C. K. on "the N-word" (2008)

This "civic norm" is only a few years old.

And that only because our "public square" came to be dominated by ban-happy lefty tech and media giants that the government refuses to regulate.

It's because they're doing what the government wants. They need these tech companies to do what the government can't do, at least not so blatantly yet.

This is just un-fucking-believable levels of lying.

9 out of 10 of the instances of Rogan saying 'nigger' are in conversations where he's simply stating that someone else said nigger.

The idea that he is in any way shape or form some guy sitting there jonesing for a return to jim crow is just so fucking preposterous.

Rogan should fucking sue.

Rogan would have to prove "actual malice" or "reckless disregard." It's almost impossible. For better or worse, lying about public figures is free speech. The reason Nick Sandmann (sp?) won and Kyle might win is that neither was a public figure until a single incident caused the media to start slandering them.

Nigger. There, nigger, nigger, nigger. Did it again.

Guess I wasn't part of their retarded socialism.

Wow, Joe Rogan planned and executed a terrorist attack on the American government, murdered many police officers and came within an inch of installing a nazi dictatorship? awesome, I must've slept through it.

The N-word is "Netflix", but yes apparently the word is "Nazi" since WWII was mentioned.

What's a "civic norm" anyway? The JRE is way more popular than CNN. If anyone is determining what civic norms are, it's Joe Rogan. Not this loser reporter.
