I was over my parents house earlier and they were watching a hallmark movie and it was one of the new ones, and in it the female protagonist was talking to two ladies who I thought were her friends, but they were a couple. I know hallmark had a movie already where they had two men as one of the side couples which I guess I'm not surprised since they bent the knee ever since that whole commercial. My parents stopped watching it. They are very religious and I am a Christian as well (not a perfect Christian but I try). I believe the Bible speaks against lgbt along with thousands of other things, although I believe people should live how they want as long as they aren't hurting anyone and especially in todays climate I wouldn't talk to a gay person about they Bible unless they wanted to have a theological discussion.
I used to think my parents were going overboard because they stopped watching shows with gay characters. I didn't mind a gay side character here or there and even watched Torchwood (fast forwarded through romantic scenes). Now I've reached a point that I'm so tired of "representation" with lgbt, black people (the ones that peddle the everything is racist nonsense), females, and usually any show with hispanics nowadays has to push open borders. I will say that the best gay character I've seen would probably be Warehouse 13, but that was before you were constantly inundated about the need for "representation".
I guess I was disappointed with Hallmark because they took flack for quite a few years and didn't change. It is annoying that such a small group demands so much representation and companies bend the knee. I used to say they need their own channel/streaming service but that won't be enough.
I guess I was wise to have a general rule of thumb to only watch stuff made in 2014 or prior (with few exceptions) and besides that I am reading a lot more now.
Being at a time of life where I feel I'd like to have a religion I can have faith in, I've been looking around at local churches wanting something conservative and traditional.
There aren't any.
One Catholic church that looked promising, but offered lgbtq inclusive workshops and meetings. Nope.
There are a few Greek and one Coptic Orthodox church but I feel that even if I liked it I wouldn't fit in with their parishioners. I wouldn't be comfortable just walking in the door and checking it out.
I saw this today "AP Lauds Pope Francis’s Crackdown on Latin Mass as Highlight of His 85th Year". What's wrong with latin mass (miracle, mystery, and authority), and why can't we have it anymore? I like latin mass, yet the Pope of all people has turned against it.
Western religions have become just another entertainment venue lacking in conviction, and lubricating the moral turpitudes we find ourselves wallowing in.
You don’t need a church to be religious. Faith in God comes from within, not a building. It’s not a bad thing to look out for, but don’t let it stop you from seeking God.
There is a special comfort that comes within the serenity and surroundings of a church that can be unique.
I'm a big fan of eastern Orthodox but they are few and far between here, and since I have no training in their customs I feel like an interloper who doesn't fit in. Orthodox churches are not the kind of inclusive and evangelical culture that western Christianity is.
Have you looked into Evangelical churches? They seem to be the only ones fighting this shit.
I can understand what you mean but I’d say keep trying. My church is good but if they ever bent the knee I’d leave
I quit World of Warcraft because they started fagging it up.
They even diversified Stormwind City by painting formerly-white shopkeepers brown.
Geez. I’ve never played World if Warcraft but I’ve always considered it.
They made a new introduction for the newcomers where you meet a noble black female commander who tries to rescue her black knight son. It’s hilarious how fantastical it is compared to the reality.
Come play Final Fantasy 14 like a real man.
The Japs tend to be fairly based across the board.
They were doing at least a year ago:

That's a great rule of thumb. There's plenty of content from before this bullshit took off to watch or rewatch.
Yea I was a about to watch that til I remembered why the title sounded so familiar. It’s funny because as a kid I hated it when my parents or grandparents would watch stuff like Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith Show, Little House on the Prairie, or Matlock but now I watch those shows a lot.
My parents are the same way now which is ironic as they too hated those shows when they were young liberals.
That’s true when you look at it that way. Although I saw him not needing a gun as part of the small town charm. I remember as a kid my older relatives would tell me they could leave the doors unlocked when they were young.
There were few black people in Mayberry
I don’t have a problem with black ppl as I am mostly black. My beef is with the ones who constantly are whining about oppression in modern times or people like some of my cousins who act like nothing has changed in America since 1776 and when I ask them why they dont move somewhere in Africa (they have the money) they get upset I asked. It seems like any show with black ppl now has to touch upon certain talking points. Same with modern day female led shows. I loved Cosby Show, Sanford and Son, Jefferson’s, and the list goes on.
Yea in Andy Griffith there were black extras and I remember an episode where Opie’s football coach was black. Sam had a black neighbor if I remember correctly in Mayberry RFD.
Yes, black people were few and far between in Mayberry
True.
Red Foxx may be the best TV show ever.
Sanford and Son
pure genius
Absolutely. One of the shows I can watch over and over.
Sounds like a Twilight Zone chapter
That was back when they were trying to convince us all that "you can be gay and masculine. We're not all like those degenerates you see marching in San Francisco. Believe Willem Dafoe and not your lying eyes."
Then when that served its purpose changing society they immediately switched to "actually we don't need to be masculine, most of us are degenerates, and there's nothing wrong with that."
Willem Dafoe has a way with words.
Homosexuality is evil. Why would you be ok with it being represented in media as a Christian? I mean if it is depicted as some dark thing that someone overcame, sure, but otherwise it’s like saying “I don’t mind a little bit of rape or pedophilia in my films, just don’t overdo it guys!”.
Your parents have it right.
I guess I mean i can’t go out and lecture gay people about the Bible. They are free to live how they want regardless of what I think. But yes as for tv shows I’m getting to understand my parents point of view
Your parents are arguing from a position where the media you grew up around is a degenerated form of what they grew up around, in the same way that you argue that the media today is a degenerated form of what you grew up around. That's the "ratcheting effect" some of us speak of that conservatism goes through with each "progressive" victory.
I've mentioned before my love of Columbo which my parents also enjoy, but sometimes I wonder what someone my grandparents' age who grew up and lived in LA would have to say about the Los Angeles depicted in that show.
Good point. I love Columbo as well. I watched it with my grandmother when I would spend summers at my grandparents house.
Why not? People used to shame sluts for dressing the way they do. Or shame an alcoholic for behaving that way. Where is shame now?
Oh yeah it’s gone. Now everyone is “free to do whatever”. Why should they be comfortable doing it though?
I used to have a gay friend before when I was an atheist. If I knew then what I know now, I would have told him his lifestyle was evil and that he should stop it immediately. Why? Because someone’s gotta tell him. You would want someone to correct you if you were making a horrible decision, as we all would.
What's the point of becoming a laughingstock in your friend circle, including the right-wing circles, just to push a laughable boomer meme?
I understand that you are a weak person easily influenced by what others think, but I'm saying what you would do if you were a true Christian.
Totally with you. I swear once Trump won the Republican nomination in mid-2016 all media just went straight to clownworld. But yeah 2014 is a good stopping point too due to GG.
Obama happened.. made the world more gay and racist.
Indeed.
Agreed it's annoying to see corporate whores acede to such demands, but remember that's it's precisely because they're very small that they cry out for the attention.
It's the equivalent of having sexual fetishes. Some may be harmless while others are so degenerate that it necessitates defense from those reluctant to admit it but shameless enough not to shut up about it, and trying to normalize it.
Having a discussion about 'right' or 'wrong' is never enough. Ultimately, it ends up in the normalization phase.
I guess the rich are happy enough because it divides the populace, supports depopulation trends, they or themselves have a loved one that falls into trans-faggotry, or whatever. The movers and shakers of the world will act as they please and puppets (including corporations) will follow.
This was a long time coming though. It’s just now that small group now either has direct power or allies that do. And these companies no longer require money from their customers or advertisers as the main source of operating expenses anymore.
Fuck me I just re-read your title: "I know it's not a huge deal [...]" There is that Christian meekness. Stop doing this. If it is important to you, say so. If it is not, then why are you talking about it? Talk about what is important to you.
Dude, they are subverting your culture and brainwashing your people. It is a big deal. You need to get educated on other worldviews right now so you have the tools to understand why they are doing this and what they have planned. You must understand your enemy, first. Basic stuff, first steps of Art of War.
I’m aware of other views but I have faith in Christ. I can understand your concerns and honestly appreciate your manner of stating them by being direct yet still being polite
But what can you do? It’s obvious which way entertainment groups lean. I do watch a lot of the Christian and Catholic stations. Art of War is on my list to read.
I really do feel for you people raised in the Christian culture. People outside of your culture and ruthlessly fucking with you and subverting your religion. Some time ago, in the USA at least, the feminists and progressives took full control of all USA Christian religions. They tell you what to believe now.
I don't feel that bad though. Your religion is based on an inversion of natural morality: Christians celebrate weakness over strength. Christians teach successful young people that they shouldn't be proud of their accomplishments and they should not celebrate their accomplishments, but they should defer to the weak and support the weak.
It's a religion for slaves and losers.
However, being part of a strong community with a set code of morality, and which promotes healthy and strong families is value and good. So I do actually feel a little bad for you guys. I just wish your religion wasn't shit, or that it didn't try to play in the domain of philosophy and instead limited itself to regulating traditions, holidays, and family-life events.
The furthest compromise I am willing to allow, is a law putting a cap of all on-screen racial and sexual minorities of whatever their respective populational proportion is, rounded up. So 13% black, 4% homosexual, 0.whatever trooners.
And I think I remember that they have to have gay characters in everything. I will stick to my “get your own streaming service” mindset.
They already have several and even those aren't enough.
