I know we get complaints every now and then that nobody talks about gaming anymore, but anyone is free to post about games.
I've been playing Skyrim since it came out in 2011 and originally had it on PS3. Then I got the special edition on PS4 since it had mods (unfortunately I didn't realize that Sony screwed over playstation users when it came to mods). I got a gaming laptop when my other one broke and now I play it with so many mods I spend more time doing quests in new territories.
Anyway, as much as I love the game I always felt that the Civil War kind of felt unfinished. I always played as the empire and there is no mission to drive out the Thalmor nor is there a moot to decide a new ruler. I have played the Civil War with the mod that restores it to what it was originally supposed to be so that was fun. My question is do you think that the civil war will play any role in any side quests in Elder Scrolls 6? With the Thalmor it sounds like their reach extends past Skyrim.
Although since each Elder Scrolls game takes place years later, I still think the effects of the civil war will play into the game somehow.
Skyrim belongs to the Nords.
I used to shout that for fun
Morrowind had no impact in Oblivion and the same for Skyrim. Between Oblivion and Skyrim there is a 200 year gap.
Even if the Thalmor conquer Skyrim it will be barely mention and it may cause some politics discussions about the destruction of the whitest culture, with all the anti-white messaging of late they may not want to avoid it.
My fears is they go some BLM, half fisted message and more LGBTQ2SIP+, pronouns and other crap. Because you know what medieval societies cared about when faced with vengeful gods, plagues and dragons? Pronouns and trans rights.
Dunmer Lives Matter!
More like redguard lives matter
Pfft. Redguards can take care of themselves, they're grown-ass people.
Unless, of course, the corpses of their ancestors are after them ... then they're pretty helpless.
The only way I accept any of those things in the game is if they make the NPC who gives that quest a follower of Sheogorath, and everyone else involved just sort of pretends to go along with it so they won't get violently murdered.
I hope you are wrong about that but that seems to be where gaming companies want to go.
If Bethesda is still competent at their wishy-washy world building, they will find a way to not resolve the civil war decisively. The Thalmor ultimately taking over Skyrim would be an interesting way to do.
Yea, it boggles my mind how they set up great stories/concept but have horrible follow throughs. Some of the modders should be hired because mods like The Forgotten City are so much fun to play.
To this day I am surprised that nobody said "shouldn't there at least be a DLC that addressed the Thalmor" when they were making the game. I guess another loose end are the Vigilants of Stendarr or the Silver Hand.
Why did you expect the empire to drive out the Thalmor? They invited them in. The knew about their death camp at Northwatch Keep. FFS people.
As for your question, they will just do a "The Warp in the West" thing and say what ever they want. The Warp in the West was how they resolved the events of Daggerfall->Morrowind. It essentially says that every outcome happened, even if the outcomes were conflicting. Read this for how Bethseda has handled this sort of event in the past.
That being said, it is <current year> and expecting a large game studio to do anything but the most hamfisted politicization of a game is laughable. Furthermore expecting Bethesda to actually manage a quality game at this point is laughable. Remember Fallout 76 and Wolfenstein. I personally expect for them to execute Ulfric for being Trump-like, and for them to make Skyrim into a morality play about always kneeling to your "betters".
One final addendum, stop being a fucking consooooooomer.
Well the Thalmor felt like a loose end and it surprised me that you couldn’t drive them out once you see what they are all about.
I don’t buy games like I used to and do a lot of reading.
Also, thanks for the article. Very informative.
This is modern Bethesda we’re talking about so It’ll either get ignored completely or resolved in such a thoroughly unsatisfying way that it will have little if any impact on the ES setting as a whole.
Never should have come here.
I would guess the civil war will be mentioned. I expect TES6 to be set not too long after the events of Skyrim and play off the fact that Hammerfell refused to sign the White Gold Concordat and is still in open opposition to The Dominion. I don't see why Bethesda would choose to return to a province from a previous game, rather than the 4 they haven't explored if they weren't going to continue with The Dominion story line.
I have 0 faith in modern Bethesda not to shit all over their previous lore and world building though. I love the Ra Gada, but from how they were portrayed in Skyrim it looks like Bethesda have just gone dark skin + desert = Berber lol. Either that or they'll go full retard and try to pull a "we wuz sword singerz and shiieeet" tie in with American 'culture'.
I wonder how many systems Todd can remove from the game in this iteration? I'm hoping for just three skills, weapon, edgelord, and magic. I love Skyrim, but leveling up is so confusing with the myriad options and character builds available.
I always sided with the Empire.
For those people asking why? Well, I realize I'd do the same if I were in their position, so I don't fault them at all, nothing personal.
Now, that doesn't mean I support banning Talos worship, in fact, I'd press the Stormcloaks back into the imperial legion to remove the Thalmor and restore the Empire. Make the Empire Great again. Perhaps even one day retake the rogue province of Summerset Isles, I will contend to not call it Alinor for now.
Ulfric? I got nothing against him, I don't even pay attention to him at all. I find Tullius rather straightforward but shortsighted. Unfortunately that'll have to do due to the game railroading.
Good man.
This tracks so hard lol
How so?
Well I felt the stormcloaks were short sighted and didn’t see the larger picture. Although not having a quest line to specifically fight the Thalmor was odd
I felt that the empire tried to decapitate me in the first two minutes of the game, and I was only saved by the random interference of a dragon, so I refused to side with my would-be murderers.
Frankly, I don't understand how anyone goes the other way.
People willingly vote for leftists, mental retardation is a thing
I think a lot of people must be using alternate start mods since you get railroaded so hard in the actual game. I agree with your point though. Even if you rp as a ferociously loyal Imperial it takes a pretty big leap of logic just to forget about them trying to lop off your head because of bureaucracy.
It's so dumb that they literally have the leader of the rebellion standing in front of them. If they execute him they win the civil war. You'd think they'd maybe bump him up the headman's queue rather than start with a no name Stormcloak grunt and a complete random that has nothing to do with the civil war at all.
Yes, well, that right there, there's your statement on "bureaucracy." It IS that dumb.
