There are parallels to be drawn between this and the Troubles in Ireland in the 80s. There was an expression regarding this after the Brighton bombing in 1984:

Except the notable differences there were any and all threats/bluffs had to be considered credible while these [repeated] bills are tangible. There is no bluff when the thing in question literally exists.
The eternal vigilance required to prevent them will depend on both preventing lethargy setting in as well as any degree of salami tactics/power creep occurring where instead of taking 10 steps in one go instead they "compromise" and only take 1. Do that enough times and you still end up taking those original 10 steps because of the slow boiling frogs.
One successful, violent uprising and enough politicians hanging from trees would set back communist agenda by more than a century. When your yard is over grown with weeds, you don't simply draw a line around the existing weeds and pluck anything new that pops up. You go to town with a weed whacker until they're all gone or stumps, spray weed killer, and stay vigilant. This isn't the type of problem you maintain. It's the type problem you demolish.

Considering I just saw a "Don't blow your brains out, veteran, here's a free gun lock!" commercial yesterday, I don't think the veterans of those wars are going to be of much use. Plus Afghanistan was a 16-year quagmire that ended in ultimate defeat, so idk how useful that was as a training exercise, either.
This is about as clear a violation of the 2nd Amendment as you can get. No American would have to follow this law because congress shall not pass it to begin with.
A congress with no regard for the constitution will pass it, a president with no regard for the constitution will sign it, and a SCOTUS with no regard for the constitution will support it.
My favourite part is the shocked, surprised and appalled noises that crowd makes when the driver does what literally any driver in this situation is almost certain to do.
