Oh, but that's not so. Let our genius author here explain it:
Notably, such an action would not be inflationary “money printing.” The supply of money circulating in the real economy would not change. One branch of the government would simply deposit a coin in the account of another branch of government, thereby erasing $1 trillion from the national debt. Nothing would change except accounting figures that Congress has fetishized.
And of course, doing so most certainly wouldn't "[vandalize] the foundations of American geopolitical power" or "jeopardize the dollar’s status as the world’s reserve currency". Everyone would just carry on like minting a trillion dollar coin doesn't expose the whole thing as a sham.
There's a part of me that think they just cannot grasp how bad things could possibly get if everything goes sideways. Probably to them, the worst thing they could invision is being one of the homeless they pass daily.
They should probably go talk to people who were alive during the Siege of Sarajevo
Them doing crap like this, it's clear they've forgotten just how fortunate they are to be in a place with such a comfortable standard of living as the US. But then again, that's been as clear for as long as we've had people around to complain about sexist air conditioners, structural racism, and what have you.
If they want to make the country go to hell, at least they'll get a reality check out of it. The ones that make it through if things truly go horribly, at least.
In a conflict situation, self selection is inevitable. Those with the will to survive, will. Even those who don't pick up a rifle, but scavenge for food in the rubble in the dark, will be better off in the end than those who huddle in a corner and wait for someone to rescue them
This is an episode of the Simpsons, The Trouble with Trillions. The government made a trillion dollar bill and Mr. Burns kept it for himself then ended up losing it to Castro and it was used to keep Cuba solvent because communism doesn’t work.
When the government runs out of stupid stuff to do, do they go looking to Hollywood for ideas or do they fund Hollywood to make them up for them?
This isn't the first time this idea has been raised. The Simpsons would have used it for comedy because some retard economist or politician seriously suggested it, rather than the other way around.
NPR did a story on this. They suggested minting 2 of them. Said there is literally no limit and they can do whatever they want. Make a hundred of them.
This is the equivalent of nuking our own currency.
If all of the money you earn over the course of a lifetime of labor is almost instantly destroyed by the deliberate actions of your own government, what would be an appropriate response from you? I'm having trouble thinking of a line you shouldn't cross.
Might look like a moron - I dunno, even if you never need the stockpile, it's the frugal thing to do if you stockpile things that don't spoil easily when they're on sale. I've been doing that for a while.
Oh wow it's not satire?
Zimbabwe here we come

There's no way they are stupid enough to actually believe that doing this wouldn't reverberate around the global financial system.
They either just don't care or the problems it would cause are their explicit goal.

There's no way the author actually thinks that this is true. Nobody thinks that government spending money somehow erases the governments debt.

Can I have one? It'll be good to have a memory of this time to remind people why we don't give women power in the future.
Good news! Yes! You can have 50 of them, but you'll need 35 to buy a loaf of bread in 5 years.
At least I get to keep 15!
Jokes aside, I've started to stockpile things. I might look like a moron, but it might be a genius move.
I also bought more crypto yesterday, which is going well for once.
