There's a part of me that think they just cannot grasp how bad things could possibly get if everything goes sideways. Probably to them, the worst thing they could invision is being one of the homeless they pass daily.
They should probably go talk to people who were alive during the Siege of Sarajevo
Them doing crap like this, it's clear they've forgotten just how fortunate they are to be in a place with such a comfortable standard of living as the US. But then again, that's been as clear for as long as we've had people around to complain about sexist air conditioners, structural racism, and what have you.
If they want to make the country go to hell, at least they'll get a reality check out of it. The ones that make it through if things truly go horribly, at least.
In a conflict situation, self selection is inevitable. Those with the will to survive, will. Even those who don't pick up a rifle, but scavenge for food in the rubble in the dark, will be better off in the end than those who huddle in a corner and wait for someone to rescue them
