Reminds me of a comedy bit I heard once where the comedian was talking about how the lower down you go on the socioeconomic ladder, the better the people were in a boxing ring. Back when the Irish were discriminated in the US, there were a lot of good Irish boxers, then blacks, now its hispanics that are prominent. I think the black identity in general was poisoned for Asians long before that. If you look at anime and manga in history the typical portrayal of a black man (aside from being stereotypically afro'd) as part of a group is one of a person who is a brutish thug of lower intelligence.
