Deus Ex was originally released in 2000 but took place in an alternate 2052 where many of the real world conspiracy theories have come true. The plot included references to vaccinations, black helicopters, FEMA, and ECHELON amongst others, some of which have connotations to real-life events.
Spector said, “Interestingly, I’m not sure I’d make Deus Ex today. The conspiracy theories we wrote about are now part of the real world. I don’t want to support that.”
Earlier, Spector had commented on how he was “constantly amazed at how accurate our view of the world ended up being. Frankly it freaks me out a bit.”

He also likes to take credit but he was "only" gameplay designer (working on his idea since 1994, when it was Project Troubleshooter). The game was written by some guy who then didn't write anything else.
And speaking of whom - also Kotaku, back in 2013:
Cut content from the game included "war torn Texas, invaded by Mexico" and the White House infiltration mission.
He's been unplugged from the matrix, and he's saying "PLUG ME BACK IN."
Like every other fictional dystopia, Deus Ex was far too optimistic. At least the people conspiring for power were competent and firmly grounded in reality with a sense of noblesse oblige.
Deus Ex had an active counter-conspiracy in America and France that hadn't been glowie'd and somehow worked together.
In real life however-
Also, some of Deus Ex's military/intelligence/other gov't figures are neither hopelessly corrupt nor spineless. They'll encourage you to do the right things early on and will even actually make a stand against the illegitimate US government (and by extension the absolutely heartless & merciless conspiracy wearing it as a skinsuit) that goes beyond posting some strong words onto the public bulletin.
Too optimistic indeed.
How about the Deus Ex: Insurrection prequel project?
Ah, yes, conspiracies like that a group of terrorists would destroy the World Trade Center.
Conspiracy theories like massive surveillance of online data.
Conspiracy theories like a disease made made in a lab being used as a smokescreen for giving sweeping powers to certain branches of government.
Conspiracy theories like people paying more tax than corporations.
Conspiracy theories like Europe's distinct cultures being systematically erased through immigration that nobody voted for.
Conspiracy theories like think tanks of bankers billionaires puppeteering governments.
'Conspiracy theories'.
Why contain it?
Let it spill over into the schools and the churches.
In the end, they'll thank us for saving them.
S'cool!
When the truths are what mainstream media peddle as facts, conspiracy theories are the new truths. I think I got blackpilled when I learned that almost all the mass shootings are orchestrated by FBI, goading some mentally ill person to commit it as well as the fact the glowies go to 4chan learning all the lingos to try fitting in poorly as 4channers.
And CIA is just infantile psychopaths on power trip regularly killing anybody that tries to expose them yet they have the nerve to try to portray themselves as some heroes. I read about cocaine trafficking and what happened to Gary Webb. After reading that, I can never see the bond films the same way. I didn't exactly give much thought to it anyway before but with that context, I find these agencies despicable. They really succeed in brainwashing people effectively.
I think that it's very likely intentional that you see many heroic spy stories and heroic FBI agent police procedural stories in the popular media. Those shows are ultimately propaganda.
he couldn't make the game today because it has white male protagonist who doesn't get shit on by every other identity group that is shoehorned into it
You can make JC black. Though I always picked the ghostly pale white JC.
Maybe you should try getting a job.
Ok, where?
Majestic 12
YOU wrote? Bitch they existed way before you were even in your dads ball sack.
Wow... he left Ion in 2004 then didn't do anything else until joining Otherside Entertainment to make System Shock 3...
Guess they wanted to skip over that whole Disney Interactive fiasco...
Almost like he's got a (financial) gun to his head
"Normies" are like the regular plugged in people in The Matrix. Maybe some do start to notice reality, but then others become agents and gently guide them back to sleep.
