That's not the real lesson. You could feed him for a lifetime with charity, but that won't be enough.
"Why are you only giving me 1 fish, you have 10?! I want my 5 fish that I deserve, bigot!" is how the saying would continue in real life these days.
That's exactly what slackers want; for us to feed them for a lifetime. Because they're perpetually "helpless" and we're perpetually "privileged." And they wouldn't call it charity; they'd call it justice. And your saying is putting it lightly; they don't believe we have fish because they don't believe in property (until someone tries taking theirs).
And to get away with it, they lump themselves in with people who genuinely can't take care of themselves.
I rather enjoyed the old exposés on TV where hidden cameras showed people on disability walking around without their wheelchairs, and later getting charged with fraud. Today they don't even need wheelchairs; all they need are talking points and a sad face.
Oh, I have seen how some folks act at the food bank.
You could always follow that up with "Build a liberal a fire and they'll be warm for the day. Set a liberal on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life."
