This was written a bit ago on Sep 19th 2020 by Damien Carlisle. It's a very well written rundown of GamerGate and it's significance. It should be studied as a very important example of progressive politics being used to control an industry and attack the people it's supposed to be serving.
And how many of the OG GG’s have now bent the knee?
Enough that I'm still laughing at the "no leaders!" original GG movement's worship of ecelebs.
Almost every single one either backstabbed or disappeared. Being proven right makes it almost less awful how far we have fallen.
Ironically, Sargon, for all his faults, is pretty much the last of the OG GG's. He's still around fighting the good fight.
He went out and tried to be an actual politician and make changes beyond the internet. I can respect that even if he is riddled with flaws and idiocy of his own.
Most of the rest either openly sided with their "Leftism" over the culture war (gotta love those "one of the good ones, sensible Leftists"), or devolved into internet bloodsports.
And these days he runs Lotus Eaters which, whilst having various Sargonisms, is a useful weapon in our arsenal. Sargon actually has built a small media empire that is self sustaining.
Don't think Metokur ever managed that.
Metokur lost the will to fight against it all really early into the GG shit and he was one of the OGs who blew this shit wide open. I think he is better off for not getting involved with it all very seriously.
i quite enjoy his new lotus eater stuff.
the vids, at least.
They also wanted to ban all T_D posters because the Right Wing posters were calling them out for their regular hypocrisy and noticing things too hard.
4cuck, techraptor, OneAngryGamer (website), Bunty King (lmao), shoeonhead, shoeonhead's bf, a whole bunch of youtube ecelebs...
What's King of pol up to these days lmao
I think it started around the time Charlottesville happened where Christina Hoff Sommers really started to distance herself from the people who were supporting her. Despite decades of skepticism around the media and the leftist narrative, she bought into the media frenzy and became afraid of her own supporters. It's such a shame that people like her are still able to be so easily manipulated.
There were early attacks that don't stand out, such as Sad Puppies event that exposed the mainstream Science Fiction writing organizations as frauds. Plus some nasty reveals of some famous authors either being involved in or not covering for pedos in the community.
And DongleGate which revealed the soft underbelly of the programming community which has had SJWs successfully gut meritocracy in much of the OSS world. Ended up destroy our local Python user group after a trans-person caused drama. (I went on to deal with more difficult technologies with less infiltration due to higher IQ and work barriers...)
There were also the grifters that got control of the NRA, but that was a money grab. Other groups are routing around that damage.
There was a small push against amateur radio, but due to it's nature, it has continued dying out with the same old men for the last 60 years. :P
GamerGate was Atollon.
And like Phoenix squad at Yavin, we've found that the larger Rebellion isn't all that willing to help us.
Great article
