Well, could it be a problem of copyright/licensing? Like changing the names of the Stands from JoJo. I wouldn't put it past that prick artist to try and sue over it.
I can believe some jumped up SJW would change it for whatever deranged reason they came up with that day, but it's just as easy to believe a corporation being careful when it comes to potential litigation from a confrontational asshole.
I went and looked up past lawsuits and all I have seen is one done over the re-use of created works which fall under some forms of copyright laws. I have seen no indications of suing over the use of the name from him or the company that makes the special paint.
Doesn't change the fact the hero's quirk name is just "Black", nothing added, "Bulaakku", and that, too, was "translated" from English to English as "Dark".
You're defending REAL hard here. Every hero in MHA has moves that do not share a name with their quirk. "Prominance Burn" doesn't share a word with "Hellflame". "Camera Flash" doesn't share a word with "Invisibility". "Reciproburst" doesn't share anything with "Engine". There is zero prior examples of a hero naming their move after their quirk, and even if I somehow forgot some minor aside one, it is clearly unimportant enough plot-wise to require changing a second word to match it.
This translation came from the company responsible for "you should respect your betters" being translated into "you're one of those gamergate freakshows", and responsible for "sometimes I just want to get out of the gaze of the heteronormative patriarchy". Don't assume innocence when malice is more likely.
Copyright and Trademark are two areas under making exclusive use of created works. I can't comment about the Lupin the 3rd stuff as I barely know about the series outside of the few episodes I've seen during the old days of broadcast TV and I have no idea about the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure as I haven't seen past the second season.
Not necessarily, I remember that Speed Grapher used "Girls on Film" by Duran Duran for its opening titles. When it was licensed in the US, Funimation had to use an instrumental track from the soundtrack instead, because Duran Duran caught wind and they hadn't given permission.
This is likely due to Vantablack being a trademarked name, with the rights for its artistic use being exclusive to the artist Anish Kapoor. Like how almost every Stand and attack in JoJo is changed because they're named after copyrighted and trademarked bands and songs.
Edit: I checked the US trademark page and there are only 6 registrations for Vantablack and none of them are for fictional characters. There are three that seemed to be linked to shit bag artist for name and usage of the special "exclusive paint". The other three are for different business usage in naming products they sale. Two for alcoholic drinks and the other one is for nail polish.
One of the flashbacks an episode or two back had a weird instance where all for one’s brother is telling him not to experiment on those two guys and all for one says “aren’t you supposed to be tolerant” or something weird like that. Maybe it is the actual line but the ham fisted usage reminded me of the “gg bastard” from back in the day
Fansubs of MHA literally tried to insinuate All Might and Nighteye had a gay relationship. The translator was called out hard and proven to be pushing their own agenda.
Fansubber isn't named directly in this article but there are some woke twiter users mentioned who pushed for this hard since it meant they could virtue signal over representation, ironically bisexuality which is often the one erased out of the lot.
Part of the problem with the story was that it was massively picked up by wokesters who ran with the "lie" and spread it across social media despite the inaccuracy. It's come up a few times now and as with many deceptions ends up spreading very far before the truth has a chance to catch up.
It was another "gotcha" and representation virtue signal sperg for many who got to "claim" All Might as theirs which happens in many things these days [see them "claiming" Aeris or someone from the FF7 remake as being "theirs" now for some likewise stupid reason].
The story goes just as you expect when the wokester is confronted with doing this
Ultimately, after being bombarded by fans correcting the false information, as well as fans who were upset that they were tricked into believing that bisexuals had received representation, chiffocado apologized for posting the image, but declared that believing All Might to be straight “is just heteronormative bs”:
Admittedly, fansubbing is all but dead to my knowledge but even so.
I hope the increasing wokeism of localized anime revitalizes fansubbing, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't, Western weebs are pozzed just like the rest of the subcultures

I vaguely recall some drama over Vantablack being licensed by some artist, Anish I think?
He only trademarked the application of an actual product, not the name to be used in fiction.

That WOULD be a good excuse...
Except OP is wrong. The hero's name isn't Vantablack. That's the name of one of his moves. The hero's quirk name, though, is straight-up "Black".
"Bulaakku". Black.
Subtitles: "Dark".
They did it twice.
Doesn't change the fact the hero's quirk name is just "Black", nothing added, "Bulaakku", and that, too, was "translated" from English to English as "Dark".

If there was a lawsuit to be had, it would have happened long ago against the Japanese company that owns the IP of MHA.

That is a copyright issue and is related to licensing issues. Not really the same thing being brought up here.
This is likely due to Vantablack being a trademarked name, with the rights for its artistic use being exclusive to the artist Anish Kapoor. Like how almost every Stand and attack in JoJo is changed because they're named after copyrighted and trademarked bands and songs.
Dude, next time actually post evidence of it when you make a posting like this.

Lol. Remember dragonball super? Dont shoot goku! Hes not black. Lol
Is his superpower the ability to send people to the Shadow Realm?
"First they came for "negro" and I was silent, because I did not speak Spanish."
PROTECT YOUR LANGUAGE. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT WEAPONS YOU HAVE.

Imagine watching anime with anything other than fansubs.
Fansubs of MHA literally tried to insinuate All Might and Nighteye had a gay relationship. The translator was called out hard and proven to be pushing their own agenda.
Which fansubber? Need to make a note so as to avoid their stuff in the future.

Oh the golden days of being an anime fan.
This tbh
Let the dubists seethe. Fansubs > dubs
