When I first started addressing racism during office visits, I worried how the family and kids would react....I’m still trying to refine the words, but for now, I will share the scripts I developed for each of the following age groups:

For babies not even 2 years old:

6-18 months

"… It’s important for the baby to stay in a rear-facing car seat until 2 years old. Another important safety topic – it’s important to start introducing diversity to babies even at this young age. Another conversation that’s important to have is about racism. Even young kids can internalize bias. Be intentional about not promoting stereotypes, and surround your kids with people and book characters from all different backgrounds.

This is one of those times where there's an easy thing to do to actually attack the problem.

Physicians have to operate under a code of conduct that forbids unprofessional conduct that's overseen by the Philadelphia medical board or similar. This is something that a parent, or perhaps an anonymous person with knowledge of can report unprofessional conduct. Political indoctrination of minors is not in any way covered under practice of medicine.

I have very little faith that anyone will actually do anything but whatever.
